Meanwhile the Austrian cities maintain that calm air of the old slow-looking cities. Even Vienna, with its orderly vitality.
Although money cannot buy happiness, it is an important means of achieving higher standards of living. In Austria, the average household net adjusted disposable income per capita is USD 37,001 per year, higher than the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development average of USD 30,490 per year.
Austria performs well on many dimensions of general well-being, compared to the other countries included in the Better Life Index. Austria performs better on average in terms of employment, health, environmental quality, social relations, safety and life satisfaction.
In terms of employment, around 72% of people aged 15-64 in Austria have a paid job, higher than the OECD average of 66%. About 76% of men have paid employment, compared to 68% of women.
In Austria 5% of employees have very long paid hours, less than the average of 10%, and among them 8% of men work long hours for pay compared to 2% of women. women.
In terms of health, life expectancy at birth in Austria is around 82 years, one year above the OECD average of 81 years. Life expectancy for women stands at 84 years, compared to 80 years for men.
As far as the public sphere is concerned, there is a strong sense of community and high levels of civic engagement in Austria: 92% of people believe they know someone they can rely on when needed, slightly higher than the average of 91%. .
When asked to rate their general satisfaction with life on a scale of 0 to 10, Austrians gave it an average rating of 7.2, higher than the average of 6.7.
But beyond the numbers, what is seen when touring Austria is that economic well-being is in harmony with the other variables that make up daily life. It is not a question of the system, it is the mountains that seem to protect from external influences.
As the Austro-Hungarian Empire has been left out of the colonization process, Austria today has less pressure from migrant flows from former colonies.
