This really happened on the Reading line a few years ago Tank car ran away eastbound through Allentown and Bethlehem and Easton Pennsylvania There is video on KZbin of it going under the 378 bridge

The Tank Car still badly burnt is on the run still. It hit a truck that stalled on the tracks. The driver survived. The burnt runaway tank car is still moving at dangerous speeds down the mainline. A GATX SD40-2 is deployed to try and stop the runaway tank car after a railroad employee noticed it and started moving in front of the tank car with his truck and boarding the SD40-2 in hot pursuit of the burnt tank car. Who knows what could happen next?

We will unfortunately never get to see the loco catch that car. In my own rail works I have tried to do scenarios like this l. The issue is to make the tank car move on it own it has to be a independent consist ran by AI. When you try to couple up to an AI train when it's moving rail works derails the consist. The game engine is setup so that if you where switching and you hit a car to fast you derail and it bases that off your speed. So if your doing over what the game determines is a derailment speed then whenever you couple the game thinks it's a derail because it doesn't know that the other consist was moving.
