When we all finally washed ashore It was clear there was no one else around We declared a national holiday A chance to build it from the ground So far away from everyone And everything starts today Keep it together Can we keep it together We're singing a new song now And everything starts today Can we rise? Can we get along all right? Can we miss the storm that sucked the whole world in? And the boats went out at night And the choppers in the sky They searched but they could find no trace of us So far away from everyone And everything starts today Keep it together Can we keep it together We're singing a new song now And everything starts today The thunder struck, the clouds appeared Our fearless crew was not prepared And pretty soon the boats came for us Half a million strong We gathered arms, we fired shells We build a wall around ourselves And pretty soon the spirit was a lot like What it used to be back home So far away from everyone And everything starts today Keep it together Can we keep it together We're singing a new song now And everything starts today

Love this song's bridge starting at 2:00. Vocals and the guitar riff just kick the song to the next level. Not sure what the level is, but it goes there!

Best part of the whole damn song. Just magnificent
@floydpinkerton7954 Жыл бұрын
It’s because they play an E dominant 7th chord leading into the bridge, providing dissonance via the D natural (very much not in key with the song) and the anticipation for the note to resolve to something more tonal builds at the same time that the drum fill picks up. Then there’s the catharsis of the bridge having a new chord progression, arpeggiating electric guitar, sixteenth-note interjections by the tambourine, and a stunningly beautiful vocal pattern to boot. I wouldn’t change a thing.

"And pretty soon the spirit was a lot like what it used to be" It means that originally they wanted to get away and build something different but "building walls", "gathering arms" and "firing shells" to defend themselves from the outside they realize they were back to the same state they wanted to escape in the first place. Very smart lyrics

I started listening to Guster about 2 years ago because it was on Pandora. I love this band. The funny thing is, when I was buying a drum set, I asked the lady there about the drummer in this band (he uses drums that are made so that he doesn't need sticks, he uses his hands). She had not heard about this band. I honestly thought it was a pretty big band, so when she said she didn't know them I was so confused.
@edelmantoamendola2 жыл бұрын
Seen them live a couple times. He wraps his hands in what looks almost like a fighters hands being taped and goes ape shit on them. It's an awesome show but the drummers the biggest standout.
