In this video, I unfortunatly hit a deer in the guts. After two days of searching, I was unable to find it. I went back about a week and a half later and made a perfect shot. Do your best is all you can do. When things go wrong, it's okay to feel bad for a few days, but you eventually have to pick yourself back up and keep doing your best. Here is a link to the buck video I referred to where it was walking - • Deer Movement Patterns...
Here is a link to the very next hunt after this one where I harvested two deer in one sit - • Two Doe one Day

I got my first compound bow kill this season. I got quite excited when I saw it so I lined up my pins and just shot. I hit kind of high but the deer didn’t go maybe like 45 yds. I’m a young bow hunter (13 yrs old )and I’m still not very experienced. You taught me a lot of great things and you have helped me become a better follower of god while helping me become a better bow hunter.Thank you!

Thanks for sharing this video and being real. I had my first shot with a bow on a doe last night. She was walking, 7 yards behind the tree I was in. I didn’t stop her, didn’t compensate for the short distance, and got a perfect gut shot. Same thing, she ran into the thickest stuff. She was a loss. While I’m upset with myself, and disappointed for the lost deer, I’m also learning from my mistakes to avoid them the next time.

Sean. This is why I've always used the Game Tracker spool line since the 80's. Found two gut hit bucks that would of been much more difficult, or impossible to find. I wouldn't dream of hunting without it in the rain or marsh where losing a trail is likely. The line attaches to the end of the arrow and goes where the deer goes when hit. Even if the arrow comes out, or the line breaks a hunter can still track the deer with certainty to that point. Also, you can't lose your arrow and broad head in the case of a miss. Most hunters seem unaware of this hunting product and isn't promoted like years ago. Why? I have no idea.
@seansoutdoors
@seansoutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
I tried them back in the day. The string always broke within 20 yards of the shot. I took it off my bow after the third attempt. I'm amazed yours stays all the way to the deer. That's great.
@dougcassin677
@dougcassin677 4 жыл бұрын
The company Game Tracker offers line in 17 & 22 LBS. I use 17# because it's lighter with less arrow drop. In cases where my line broke it was after the deer ran off some distance because of a barbed wire fence, thick log jam etc. I don't know what style/ brand you used but to have it break./detach shooting at a deer suggests the line was inferior, or you weren't correctly attaching the string to the arrow. Game tracker was more popular with bear hunters because the thicker fur tends to absorb blood hindering a good blood trail.

Cool how you were able to get a second chance. Just shot my first deer in 2 years on Saturday. Spent 200 plus hours in the stand last year and wasn't able to harvest a deer with a combo of bow and gun hunting. Missed a shot on a doe with my bow last week, my first arrow fired from a tree. My first sit in a new WMA I was able to get a doe with my gun. Used a .308 rifle and still had to trail it for 100 yards! Thankful to the Lord that I found it after searching for an hour.

Great lesson! - The same happened to me on Saturday. The doe was walking and I did not stop her because I was afraid she would spook. A quartering gut shot. I used the rage mechanical broadhead and lighten nock.. I could clearly see the shot. .and as the deer ran away. .I saw the arrow fall out of her. . she circled. .and then walked away slowly. . I think I heard her fall over .. I gave her an hour and 1/2 before I got down.. She was about 60 yards from my stand.

Hey Sean, remembering back you talked about how you have shot deer down through the back when they get too close. Have you ever had an experience where the deer ran off after bring shot but was still recovered. Shot one this morning, recently switched to fixed blades.expecting to break the spine and at least put another shot in her. She ran off looking hurt but couldn't tell how much penetration. Should've just let her walk but nerves got the best of me...
@seansoutdoors
@seansoutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
That might be hard If your arrow didn’t penetrate the bottom of the deer. Was the broad head a razor blade all the way to the tip? Anyway, if no exit hole all the blood will stay in the deer with no blood trail. Best thing to do is wait a few hours then go look about 100 yards away in t he direction it ran. If it was a lung hit they often run about 100 yards and die somewhere around there. I’ve got a video coming later this week where that happened. God bless ya
@Mason_H99
@Mason_H99 4 жыл бұрын
@@seansoutdoors it was a G5 Montec CS, little update - I looked 2 times that day, I thought she went up a ditch about 50 yards from my stand, saw her fawns cut right into it so I looked all over the hillside no luck. Went back after dark, the stand sits along the road so I drove it looking into the woods, and I just barely caught a glimpse of my nockturnal about 60 yards in. Walked in and there she was. Arrow buried up the fletchings. Missed her spine by about an inch. Arrow drove all the way through and almost got a pass through, like you said all together she was about 100 yards from the stand, I was just looking in the wrong spot. Looking forward to the video! Probably won't attempt that shot again, the possibility of no blood trail and a dead deer gave me that real sick feeling. Couldn't even enjoy the feeling of shooting a deer, just kicked myself for taking the shot when she ran off.

Enjoyed the video. Had the same experience on 10/25/19. I shot at a walking doe and hit her through the gut. I was really upset with myself. I questioned why I didn't grunt stop her too. About 30 minutes later a buck walked by. I grunt stopped him and he fell over about 50 yards away. I gave the doe overnight, but was unable to find her. I still am upset with myself for that, but I believe I will never shoot without stopping a deer again.

This past Monday I had what I thought was a small doe walk out on me ended up a button buck.. Anyway I had a side shot as it's head was down eating. I took my shot low behind the front leg. Instead of dropping and running out it turned into my shot. I've been kicking my self around sense. Unfortunately I got the poor guy right in the nose 😢 The arrow went through the bone, teeth, tongue, lower jaw and into the neck. I went after it a few times but each time it would go deeper into the wood.. well three days later a neighbor put it down by his pond. Now when I hunt I feel like leaving early so it doesn't happen again.

If it was far enough back to get the liver then you should be good if you leave him for a few hours. If it’s going to be cold enough you can wait till morning to look. Best to not push him out of the bed and wait eight hours from the time of the shot if possible.

Sounds like a tough situation. I could imagine that wearing on your emotions after a while. Ultimately you have some choices to make it sounds like. Either start hunting on your own or if you feel the need to hunt with other people then start asking around for people who hunt and look for new hunting buddies. Or, tell your current friends that their behavior is wearing you out and they either need to change or you’ll need to find some new people to hunt with...

I lost a doe last year. I simpley took a shot I shouldn't have taken. Tracked her for 9 hours before I gave up. I let two deer walk after that due to lack of confidence then dropped a doe in her tracks.
