This episode was especially heartbreaking finding out an hour before the episode that Annie Wersching, who voiced Tess, passed away Sunday of cancer. I feel like we lost Tess 3 times… This is by far one of the best episodes of a TV show I have ever seen. Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett deserve Emmys for their performances.

“It’s the story that Bill deserves” Exactly! That’s how I felt when watching this. My belief was that if the world they lived in (in game) wasn’t so dark and chaotic then THIS is what could have been. I’m so glad they were able to give us such a beautiful story and a loving relationship. I’m also very thankful for your vulnerability. ❤️

Bill must have been in his 70s by the end of this episode. So, not only would he have been alone but he would have also grown continuously older & frailer and become unable to maintain his place and protect himself. This way, he got to choose how to go out rather than pass in some silly accident, unable to get up after a fall, or being torn apart by raiders. This is simply one of the most beautiful episodes of television ever but also emotionally draining.

For those curious fans about the full letter of Bill including the last part and those part they omitted, here it goes: August 29, 2023 If you find this, please do not come into the bedroom. We left a window open so that the house wouldn't smell, but it will be probably a sight. I'm guessing you found this, Joel, because anyone else would have been electrocuted or blown up by one of my traps hehhehheh. Take anything you need. The bunker code is the same as the gate code but in reverse, do not make a mistake or you will also get blown to shit. I am not joking. Don't fuck that up hehhehheh. Anyway, I never liked you, but still, its like we're friends. Almost. And I respect you. So i'm gonna tell you something because you're probably the only person who'll understand. I used to hate the world, and I was happy when everyone died. But I was wrong because was one person worth saving. And that's what I did, I saved him, and then I protected him. That's why men like you and me are here. We have a job to do, and God help any motherfuckers who stand in our way. I leave you all of my weapons and equipment. Use them to keep Tess safe, until such time as you and she decide you've had enough. At that point, I recommend pairing 40 Vicodins with a nice Brunello. Bill

double comment because i need to be serious for a minute. i was not ready to watch your reaction right away because this episode left me so soft and tender!! i knew i would cry again lol this is just such an important episode of television because of what it represents. gay relationships are rarely embraced so fully and they're never told with this kind of care. bill and frank are hope in a seemingly hopeless world, when in the game bill was a warning of what joel could be come. to change their story to one of love and beauty and hope is just... there's a reason this episode stuck with people, you know? there's a reason it sits with you and it's because love prevails

Wow so beautifully said. There was so much care and importance put into this episode. Neil keeps saying that TLOU is all about love. and different kinds of love, and wow is this such a beautiful example of finding and embracing love in the bleakest of conditions.
