I may have to quote you here... such a simple phrasing (at 1:45) - its the exact answer I'll be giving to clients. "today we're using Gutenberg to build content and we'll use a page builder to build complex page layouts" - thanks Adam!! ... as usual, your descriptions and explanations are so concise yet spot on and very powerful.

Thank you for this video. So would you recommend just using Gutenberg for blog posts and page builder for your home page and pages you want to have more features on?

I've been a pro since 1999 and have also used Wordpress from the beginning. Gutenberg is the worst disaster in web design that myself and 1000's more pro web developers have witnesses in the history of web design. Gutenberg is probably the beginning of the end of Wordpress. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and videos. I'm sure you've helps 1000's of people.

Another good one! Thank you Adam. My take away: Just like the Classic Editor, start with the "Gute Editor" to give your page a title and the permalink structure you want, then, once the page is saved as a draft or published use a page builder, in my case Elementor. Looking forward to your next VDO.

Thanks. I use Siteorigin's Page Builder have been nervous about using Gutenberg and running Page Builder at the same time. Right now I am just using the Classic Editor Plug in and I can't shake the feeling that Gutenberg is a massive iceberg the good ship WordPress is now hitting.

Great breakdown, but the one thing which is missing is a view of the syntax that these builders output. What has yet to be developed by any of these builders is the ability to output to Gutenblocks , etc If these builders are not going to play ball with the overall platform direction, then abandon them immediately.
@petersz986 жыл бұрын
What Divi and other Page Builders should do is allow Gutenburg blocks to be used inside their Page Builders then you can get the best of both worlds.

I'm not sure why you think it will be a long time until Gutenberg can replace page/theme builders. Why can't some 3rd party developer extend gutenberg to be a page/theme builder? Already there are companies that have come out with additional blocks similar to at least some of what you find in Elementor et al. Furthermore, there is frontenberg which turns gutenberg into a front-end editor. And finally, just like Elementor 2.0 turned the Elementor Page Builder into the Elementor Theme Builder, why can't some clever programmers find a way to turn Gutenberg into a page or theme builder? My sense is that the change will come sooner than later in terms of the 3rd party developers. In terms of the wordpress core, though - i imagine you are correct. But they have pressure from wix et al, so it may be coming sooner than we realize.

Great video, Adam! I was wondering: We use Beaver Themer to design our blog layout and the blogpost's content is put in the classic Wordpress editor. Can we use the Gutenberg editor for the content? Thanks in advance :)

Adam: Could you do the same with the Classic Editor plug-in (create and save page) or do you think we should use Gute? Also, do still believe that we should install and activate classic editor plugin to prevent Gute update from breaking the elementor/Divi site when the update happens?

Thanks for walking us through this, Adam. Glad to see Gutenberg will play nice and vice versa with page builders. Have you heard of Oxygen? What about tools like Webflow, that seem to be more code concentrated? Are these at all heavy competition for WordPress?

Effectively every builder that allows for blank canvas and have content “ blocks” does not need Gutenberg

I will happily install the classic editor plugin and bypass Gutenberg completely to avoid this nightmare of a problem. But each to their own....
@jasontheryan6 жыл бұрын
I second that!! Jumping back and fourth between front end and backend is not an efficient use of time and horrible UX. There is a plugin to remove Gutenberg on wordpress.org called "Disable Gutenberg" that will remove it completely, especially when they launch it in core. I have already installed it on 60+ client websites.
@Dougster1236 жыл бұрын
What problem? It's now different now (before Gutenberg). Not sure which part you are referring to. Cheers.

I have built 5 or 6 Gutenberg based sites now, and can seriously say that those who are fighting the Gutendirection , will be left out in the cold. I highly recommend that people learn to build custom themes and embrace Gutenberg, as it works really well --> a huge improvement overall for WP
@mhdoctor6 жыл бұрын
Perhaps it's because of the kind of sites I build, but I'm having a hard time seeing how I even need to use a page builder. I spent a ton of time and money on page builders but when I built my first Gutenberg pages it felt like I had all the tools I needed to do what I wanted. I will keep testing Gutenberg to see if I can find "Must Have" features that require a page builder, but at this point, I suspect I won't. I wonder if Gutenberg is analogous to MacDonalds, and the page builders to a fancy restaurant. Sometimes you just want a meal, other times you want an experience.

Guttenberg is just a simple editor for blog or posts. It's far from being a page builder like Divi Elementor.But for even writing posts it's a nice upgrade over the classic editor. People including me just got scared for Guttenberg.
@rustlecompton6 жыл бұрын
'Guttenberg is just a simple editor for blog or posts' I do not know how one could come to this conclusion. There is nothing you can't build with this system. And more importantly it allows any content block inside of the post meta loop to become modular, and eventually be invoked anywhere on the web via API.. Hardly just a blog editor.
@tanzimibthesam58616 жыл бұрын
rustlecompton Its a massive upgrade over the classic editor but still miles from being a page builder. With blog posts u just post with some pictures and text. It's fast and too much hassle to create a landing page and integrate shortcode like u can do with others. It's intended to be a page builder in the long run but it will take time to sort out grid system and include features like having a slider. But it looks like WP is moving towards React JS which I feel is good
@RogueReplicant5 жыл бұрын
@@rustlecompton Thanks for the honest feedback. I feel that many devs are snobs who can't see that Gutenberg will eventually integrate many, if not most, of the features of Elementor, BB, et al. The info in this vid feels outdated to me.

With Elementor you can build content too. So indeed as I conclude now based on your statement you don’t need Gutenberg.

Thanks for the video Adam. Not user friendly at all. I wonder why don't all page builders have options to change page title and slug right from the builder page screen instead of having to go and save the page back to WordPress. Must be a WordPress thing, I guess. But should be easily overridable, I would think?
