I studied music performance as a guitarist in college and one day Guthrie took one of our lectures...my mind was blown with his musical knowledge in 2006 and still is 15 years later 🤯

It's funny how other guitarists like Malmsteen are in their leather get ups and covered in man-jewelry with walls of amps behind them, soaking up the attention as guitar gods, while Guthrie has the best chops of all but sits there in a t-shirt and blue jeans going *shrug*. I love it.

Invin Guthrie seems like a dude who took a guitar, sat down and play for fun. He doesn't dress up flashy, he's Guthrie. A guy who plays the guitar really well. He is a no nonsense guitar virtuoso.
@richardaaron44548 жыл бұрын
Hey he's playing with Steven Wilson or at least he was last time I saw him. Malmsteen, Vai, Satriani and all those guys don't play in many songs you can name or sing. I remember when the guitar virtuoso thing was big and I was just like yeah but can you write a memorable song?

WTF. I just finished a 30 minute tutorial on 8th note delay. Who knew you could just dial it in like he does here. 30 minutes vs 30 seconds and I feel like I get it after the 30 second explanation

I love what Guthrie is doing here but I am struggling to do the same with my Flashback II. First off there is something I do not get this video is for his Dotted 8th Toneprint, which I have banked in Toneprint position 2 of my Flashback II, but in this video he does not appear to be using it per se. Either that or there is video trickery afoot. So Guthrie says he using his Toneprint but when you watch the video and you look closely at his pedal, the Selector Switch for Delay effect to me appears to be pointing to 2290 setting (see 1:30 - 1:35 of video). Granted it most likely is that the dotted 8th trick Toneprint is nothing more than the 2290 setting mixed with tweaking the Delay and the Feedback knob. That said according to the Video the settings for this trick should be irrelevant of Flashback I or II. Anyhow if I have understood according to the video it should work as follows with the settings at: Delay. set to the tempo of the song you are playing adjusting the knob as he does until you lock into the 8th note feel Note Toggle Switch: I cannot tell from the video but I assumed it would be set to the dotted eighth setting but it is not really discussed? Feedback: Appears to be set to approximately 12:00 Level: Appears to be set approximately to 12:00 Delay Type: 2290 or Guthrie Govan Dotted 8th Toneprint (again see above)? Sorry for being immensely thick on this but I just am not hitting the groove with what I have tried so far either with the 2290 or Guthrie's Toneprint and before I give up I just want to doublecheck if it is my own limitations or if I actually have something out of whack on the settings I am trying to work with. The exercise has hardly been in vain mind you I have discovered some pretty smacked out other delays going through all this. Any assistance/clarity/confirmation is welcome here. Thank you TC, I have been both a Flashback I & II owner and really get some phenomelanl use out of both delays. -F#

@caerulemusic10 жыл бұрын
it doesn't matter what exact pedal it is. any delay pedal will do this, all you have to do is set its parameters correctly. paul gilbert, van halen, buckethead, and the likes have all done the same effect using different pedals

sure thing, it's great fun to play with the dotted eighth delay :) oh yeah, i forgot to mention ... this is one of brian may's very own signature sounds too, although he tends to use it slower. he used to do this on tape delays using multiple amps, i think! what a guy
