maybe you could acknowledge that just because this isn't to your taste doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable to others. this is unquestionably an amazing performance, regardless of whether or not it is pleasing to you in particular.

Admiration, and much more importantly, inspiration. And I think the understanding he was referring to is not natural, but theory. I may be wrong, so sorry in advance for putting words in his mouth.

You're used to hear those old rules of pop music, then. This song has a lot of Jazz into it. It's completely normal for someone like you to feel a little strange about this. - :) - Cheers.

I understand what you're saying. For the most part I share your feeling about this kind of music. For instance I am not about to put this on for my listening pleasure but I can appreciate the dedication it takes for a musician to get to this level. However I do enjoy watching it because it's amazing. If you're that good you should express it and show it. I don't think music needs to have a coherent message to be valid or have "redeeming qualities". Of course you're entitled to your opinion.

What people who are not versed in music don't understand is that "complex, technical, jazz-wankery" music can actually produce strong feelings in a listener, the same way that a standard "classic for the masses" can. Unless you have walked these roads REPEATEDLY, however, by listening or playing music or otherwise, such music will never be intuitively enjoyable to you because your mind hasn't been trained for it. Musical appreciation is as broad as any other art, so don't judge it.

For people who understand music (maybe even play an instrument), this can be an entirely coherent and completely enjoyable piece of music (it certainly is for me). Maybe you should concede its not to your taste or understanding, rather than label it "semi coherent".
@norbertcf
@norbertcf 11 жыл бұрын
I'm talking about appreciation that comes naturally. Just because only a few people are moved by this piece of music, doesn't make it "unnatural". As to what is "understanding music", it's as complex a question as "what is beauty". 99% of folks will agree that Scarlett Johannsen is beautiful, but 1% will respond to a less conventional person's looks. Is that unnatural? I think not. Regarding your argument on pop music, yes more people respond to that because it is the lowest common denominator.

Awe that's cute, someone misses a melody :( Get over it guys. They play music that makes them happy. That's all that matters... it doesn't hurt they are all masters of their instruments.
@KoldDude
@KoldDude 11 жыл бұрын
However, when one (a musician, say) has traversed the paths of theory so many countless times, your mind learns to feel complex music too, such that one rarely has to think consciously about the complexity to enjoy it.

It is the same reason why the romantic period is the less listened. The classical and baroque periods are much more easy to listen to because they are simple. Don't tell me you haven't heard of Mozart.

It is basically jazz so it is not to be listened by someone who does not understand music. You have to be a musician yourself to find it interesting because it is complex.

As pretentious as it sounds, it's entirely true. Enjoying technical jazz has a certain number of prerequisites to make it understandable and enjoyable - the same way an astrophysics course would have a certain number of prerequisites so you can appreciate equations, etc..

Fascinating reactions from people. All are reasonable. Its not sentimental, no 'emotion' you know brooding shit like the blues or something or a sense of resentment. Its music ex mens sana corpore sano. Western music. Frankly I'm sick of people trying to 'say something'. Actually I'm sick of people. No, these guys aren't saying stuff they are doing stuff. Its like a circus act, an amazing physical performance. And they can do musical humour without being crude. They say the scherzos of classical composers are not really funny like Shakespearean jokes aren't either. But these guys can do funny music. I think you have to get really sick in your soul of normal stuff first before you turn to this.

I would like to prepare some cool backing track for improvising, and it inspiring me, but I still looking for a way do do it.

and what is understand music?This understanding you are talking about comes naturally, thats why everyone likes music, but almost everbody end up manipulated indirectly and liking pop music and it's patterns. I agree in parts with the guy up there, when people who play some instrument hear this kind of music, they think other way, and not musician people simply don't get it, so the sound made takes to nothing.It's a well done sound, but it is pointless, it doesn't create feelings but admiration

if a musician compose songs heard and liked only by who knows musical theory, he is not a good musician, and that is not the case of Govan. Music doesn´t have to be analized, it have to be felt, and anyone can feel it, music shouldn´t be just a theory exercise.

i fucking hate when people call technical music "without feeling". i for one think its got much emotion and is no way at all "lifeless". I mean that riff at 1:30 is sick. you probably get bored because theres no lyrics to listen to. the music is what is coveying the emotion not the lyrics. personally, i get bored with 3 chord pop songs. i love this bc its unique. its musically interesting. just dont call technical instrumental music lacking emotion, because the whole thing has emotion.
