2:35 i love how he just switches it around because hes screwing up a little bit.. but anyways that just shows his amazing creativity. I love it.

Agreed. Especially the final solo, I may be out on a limb here but in terms of putting passion into playing guthrie may be up there with bb king, not that comparing is important. I swear to god hes making the drummer cry as he plays the final solo!

my favorite lick is at 6:22 so classy for improv. thanks guthrie your the inspiration.
@Gregorypeckory15 жыл бұрын
Sometimes your skill level varies day to day. Personally, I'd rather see a player take risks and play something amazing, with an occasional clam, rather than give a safe, note perfect, but uninspired performance. It's fun hearing a great player recover from a mistake; often those are some of the coolest moments imho. We're just humans; perfection is a great goal, but fear of mistakes can hamper creative expression.

its great fun to hear guthrie mess with high distortion like this, its not typical of his other stuff. he sure knows how to beat the crap out of that beautiful suhr.

one of the coolest things in this song, FOR ME, is that it's called seven, the seventh track of the cd, and also the one where you ca always count to 7, meaning it has a 7/4 or 7/8 beat xD

Thank you Joe... Thank you Steve... Thank you Yngwie... Thank you Paul... Each one of you have done incredible job so far. But simply this guy is at another level. This is not fair, this is just using a "disproportionate guitar force" against the other guys. I am speechless...

It's a really cool technique based around harmonics, he explains it in one of his fantastic books. Basicly, you take one of your right-hand fingers and lay it across the 12th fret in the same fashion as when you're doing natural harmonics, so don't actaully fret the notes. Then you use your left hand on frets nr 3, 5 and 7 and do hammer-ons and pull-offs, that will create some very cool harmonics! Try it! Hope I made sense :P

@BodhiSvaha I agree to a certain extent. I'll always believe Shawn was the finest player to grace the instrument, no matter what. Yes, he is known as a speed freak. But he had more emotion and feeling in his playing than most. Epilogue for Lisa is (imo) one of the most beautiful songs ever composed. When he met Hellborg and got into Indian music he slowed down substantially. Thats when his phrasing came out. Absolute other wordily phrasing. I recommend the paris DVD to see what im talkin about.
@Kingding615 жыл бұрын
Guthrie really is the best todayin technical and musical terms. Shawn Lane was the only other guitarist I can think of who matches Guthrie
@dennoow16 жыл бұрын
Well there already is a G3, a couple of times, it doesn't stand for guitar idol, It's a show that so far featured Satriani, Vai and Malmsteen (2003 I think), Satriani, Vai and Johnson (1990's somewhere) and recently Satriani, Vai, Petrucci and most recent Satriani, Gilbert and Petrucci. It's this show I was referring to, not the London GI show. I think the G in this case stands for "Guitar" and the number behind it for the number of sologuitarists, in which case you can have a G3 without a G1.

well practice does count and you need the tools to be able to express yourself on the isntrument sometimes without proper guidance you can't express what you feel over your instrument so you need the tools to do that and yes your expressions and ideas are with in you no one can teach you how to compose really but people can give you the direction of the way things should be done then you decide which paths to take for your approach over your instrument :) Cheers.

Yes, the great Allan Holdsworth - you might also be interested in Frank Gambale - and if you want to here some seminal Fusion, get an album called Master Strokes by the super-group Bruford - its a work of genius - Allan was part of Bruford during its most fertile period imho (Bill, Allan, Jeff and Dave) - and if anyone wants to know what a bass player is, listen to Jeff.

@BodhiSvaha I agree to an extent. I think GG is "rushing" at the moment but that will change with age. My personal favorite is Shawn Lane and I think he had everything you could have in a guitarist. He'll always be the best for me

@hira1800 All of the top guitarists are equal as far as skill, its who youd rather listen to that defines choice. I love Govan because hes quirky, spontaneous and original. Of course he can shred like anyone else. But I also love Petrucci because he puts together really great songs, and hes an excellent composer. those are my 2 favorits.

Well I think it would be cowardly for Vai and Satch to deny Govan a spot on G3, even though Guthrie would prove he is actually God. Vai/ Satch have their own style and both have really good compositions. So does Guthrie. So hopefully if it happens they will all be appreciated for their own thing. Verheyan and Timmons were brave enough to stand on the same stage as Guthrie and survived. Well done tbh
