No don't feel that way. I used to feel the same when I saw: E.V.H., Al Dimeola, Guthrie G, Allan Holdsworth or Tommy Emmanuel. Now, I just go at my pace. I'm working on my Fingerpicking during lockdown and expanding chord inversions. Music is not a Competition. Think about the guitar-mastery of David Gilmour. They all motivate me.
@breakingbrad21294 жыл бұрын
I met Guthrie once. I told him I can't play as good as you, but I am proud of myself, because you couldn't play as bad as me if you tried. He laughed at it, so there's that. But you do what you do and enjoy guitar, that's what it's there for. Rock on my man :)
@PartialS4 жыл бұрын
That might be a good thing in order to get better. When Guthrie could play perfect 32nd notes, knew every note on the fretboard backwards and upside down he (probably) kicked himself up the arse to do perfect 64ths and learn all the notes inbetween the fretted ones. He never patted himself on the back for learning a D chord. I'd imagine that he never played in order to be impressive to anyone but yesterday's version of himself.
@sergiodifranco43804 жыл бұрын
In a way, that's a good thing. But you got to put things in perspective. Guthrie does this for a living; and i don´t know you, but i play guitar in between lots of thing that sum up my life nowadays; so i don´t (can´t) give the instrument the amount of time needed for that quality or at least a step up. Use him as an inspiration and enjoy the instrument and the music.

One time I was watching G3 with Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and of course Govan. After Satriani and Vai soloed for a while, Govan started playing with his super-human abilities, and then Joe & Steve's faces were struck with awe and they stared at each other as they watched Govan solo! They were both amazed and even humbled by how extraordinary this guy can play. While he's not my favorite player, he's arguably the best player of all, including John Petrucci, Vinnie Moore, Michael Angelo Batio, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Paul Gilbert.

Guthrie..or......Sir Govan...dude, this was the absolutely best thing I have seen on the internet like....forever. If I did more than strum an acoustic Martin twice a week, I would aspire to be you. Now, here's the lesson: please put out any and more videos that give players and fans more good feeling because your SOUL is GUITAR. And the thing I was thinking throughout this videos and your past ones is: How would my guitar heroes from long ago deal with your style? No mentioning names, but they would be certainly be lagging behind indefinitely. Awesome sauce! Cheers Guthrie!
