Outrageous player... I still stand by my opinion that he is the most accomplished electric guitarist the world has ever seen.... and if there’s someone even more accomplished I would be more than happy to be even more amazed. Blown away and wish I were there. Have seen Guthrie up close and personal in SLC twice at small venues with The Aristocrats in the last 5 years. Their music is complex beyond me but I have never seen a tighter, more talented three piece band ever. Kudos to The Travis Larson Band, another fine instrumental band, who opened for them both times

Paganini perchaps?
@Tannhauser623 жыл бұрын
That comparison doesn't work though, does it? I love Guthrie, he is maybe the best *guitar player* of our generation, but he isn't really a notable composer, even for just the guitar. Mozart's pieces have survived his death for two centuries (unlike many of his contemporaries) because they're delightful, gobsmackingly catchy, and have appeal outside of musos and players.

He's awesome, but I don't like how he doesn't allow a groove to settle and breathe before taking a wrecking ball to it. Funk is about feel, not jacking off to constant improvisation. There's a balance. To achieve that feel, the groove has to be established. I'm absolutely not saying play the chords straight with no variation, I'm saying establish the feel first before branching off. Especially when it's such a nice groove as this one.
