Actually there is a theory that shows it may be the exact opposite. Gaiseric was charismatic and powerful. He built a great empire but was corrupt. He was brought down by this sage who was originally put to torture by Gaiseric. Void shows evidence of his torture at Gaiseric's hands (Sown shut eyes and ripped lips exposing the gums, and his brain is exposed another torture technique). In truth Skull Knight is Griffith and Void is in fact Guts. The same yet different. I found this comparison to be quite compelling.

No they mentioned that a long time ago there was a king who ruled in peace in the manga I forgot which chapters but in the early ones. This kings reign also came to an end by the 4 demons and so by deduction and the fact that they referred to Skull knight once as the old king I’m assuming it was him.
