@@TeslaPlaidChannel, having spent time on the pit crew of a fueler, I can tell you that you win every single race, because you go like holy Hell, you don't fry your tires, you don't spin out, you don't crash, you don't blow up, you don't spend all week preparing the car for a couple of hours of racing, and it probably costs you under $10 for 'fuel' for a night of drag racing against vehicles that cost far more than yours, sometimes ridiculously more, and you still beat most of them to the traps while consistently turning close to 9 second quarters. The most impressive thing about the Tesla is its ability to consistently run great numbers over continued beatings. You’ve “beaten” all of your cars with hundreds of runs and they just continue to perform with no drop off, as designed. Don’t get me wrong, I love ICE cars too (multiple foxbody owner here), but we build up our cars and it seems like so much can go wrong…and the more we build them up, the more risk - like this poor GTR owner today. These electric cars just perform so damn well. This is also testimony to the engineers that designed this thing. Just wow.
@deanmcmanis93982 жыл бұрын
Wow! 9.16 in the 1/4! And 5.933 in the 1/8Th! All of those numbers are exceptional. Less weight puts the Plaid up a notch. I do enjoy seeing these races with the big boys because it is a true challenge, and it is still exciting to see, regardless of who wins. It is sad that the blue GT-R blew it's engine, but these are heavily modified race cars. It does highlight the Tesla's consistent reliability under these extreme drag racing conditions (over 1,000 runs on the Raven!). Running over and over. Full tilt.

Regarding that "factory stock" point (RC), I've seen a number of factory stock Hellcats/Redeyes/Demons that don't post consistent times, mostly due to traction issues. Even on Drag Radials, not always super-consistent. Some Hellcat/Redeye guys (Mike and Doug on this Channel for example) are quite consistent, but also not nearly "factory stock". My point is just that "factory stock" doesn't necessarily mean "works the same every time".
@nighthawk00772 жыл бұрын
@@L3x4Pr0ne For sure, but you have to remember this is the Plaids playground. It's the ideal environment for any performance electric vehicle. Having near max torque at zero RPM, plus only requiring a full power burst of less than 10 seconds all play to it's favor. The only thing going against it is weight, but when you have over 1000hp, you can still run very fast times.

The rear seat warning is still there. I’ve heard if possible solutions (fake a wiring harness, resistors, etc), but not currently worth the effort. One car can't even run a quarter from a standing start without blowing up. The other car you can drive to the track then drive home after half a dozen runs. Cost for the vehicle's fuel (electricity,) for the drive to and from the track and a night of drag racing, probably under $10.
@dathyr1 Жыл бұрын
I think the running starts help the gas cars to get to their top end speeds at the end. If you both did a stationary start, I think the Tesla would win every time because of the super acceleration off the line. The Tesla had no more acceleration at the end and you usually turn speeds around 150-152 mph. Good race and thanks for the video. Still the Tesla Plaid EV's are awesome.
@TeslaPlaidChannel Жыл бұрын
The main benefit is for “traction limited” cars. Instead of spinning their tires at the starting line, they are doing 30-40MPH and are less likely to spin. But in the end, the top speed at the finish line is only 1-3MPH different versus a regular start from the tree, regardless of the car.

I’ve gone 163MPH right after the 1/4 mile traps but the runoff is not long enough to go higher, and the dragstrips (rightfully) get mad if you stay on the throttle past the finish line. With Tesla’s upcoming new brake kit, they up the speed to 200MPH AFTER that hardware is installed. I won’t be getting it, as it requires the heavier 21” wheels that are slower for drag racing. And there are no dragstrips longer than 1/4 mile in Florida, so entirely no reason to get it here.

We will have to wait and see what the final version will be able to do, and if Elon is able to produce a SoaceX rocket powered Roadster like he claimed some time ago (I really doubt it but anything is possible from him so we will have to wait and see). Heavily modifying super cars like the GT-R is fun, but is also almost pointless now with EVs all around and will be completely pointless to do that in a few tears when the EV “explosion” really happens. Maybe I’m just showing my age but I cannot respect a “roll” race as a drag race. If you can’t launch your car it doesn’t belong on a drag strip. The launch - is - drag racing. It’s like asking an autocross racer to take the cones away. 🤨 Now if I could just get a Plaid drivetrain into my 3 or Y 😝
@TeslaPlaidChannel2 жыл бұрын
Hard to argue with that. There are unusual circumstances sometimes though. For example, for a racer with only one leg or foot, it’s pretty hard to launch from the tree (unless they add a trans brake?)
@mikereliford552 жыл бұрын
@@TeslaPlaidChannel I will definitely concede to that. If the driver has some impairment that wouldn't allow him/her to do a proper launch that's different than the car not being able to launch. Launching was the most challenging thing coming up in the FWD sport compact drag racing world. Everyone brought extra axles LOL. I love the channel because of your positivity and respect for all cars and drivers at the track. Keep up the great work!

How many times can people watch the same car turning the same numbers? That's the problem with these Teslas. You're stuck. How boring...
@TeslaPlaidChannel2 жыл бұрын
Nope, try again. Mine ran 9.20s when new, now runs 9.10s. There's another one that ran 8.80s last month and everyone was shocked. It now runs 8.70s... Your comment sounds just like the *unimaginative* people in the 1980s when the first “computer cars” came out. “We can never work on the new Camaros, Firebirds, Corvettes, etc…” Weren’t you there? If you weren't already aware of this, perhaps educate yourself on automotive history? 🤔 How’d that turn out? The aftermarket stepped up. ECU mods became popular. The same will happen with EVs 👍 And just watch what Big Daddy Don Garlits is already doing with his EV dragsters. That same hardware can go into any production body style!
