Great product and the built in removable filter is an innovative addition. Very informative instructive video with easy to follow simple instructions. I have one installed and it works well.

Like the idea of the plug, but would prefer a tap type on/off at source or better, a floatation based switch. Looking for a solution to efficiently top the pond up, when evaporation from high winds or limited summer rainfall. So hose to ground (below ground).

Should the top cut of the drainpipe be 2 or 3 Cm below the top of the guttermate rather than the 2 or 3 mm stated in the video?
@gm8group3176 жыл бұрын
Patrick, Thanks for the enquiry. It should be 2 to 3 mm. Using this dimension it is far easier to lift out the filter basket as you have more room to swing it out when the top is off.

@trojanhorse60292 жыл бұрын
Imagine if 100,000 people in a flood zone used these during times when drainage systems are under pressure during heavy rainfall. Empty when the drainage recovers, then keep full,, ready for drought season 🤔
@alexmckee46832 жыл бұрын
Yeah, should be mandatory on new builds I think. And grants to encourage retrofit. In the meantime plenty of people will be fitting these on their own volition after experiencing a drought in a usually reasonably water secure area, England.

When the guttermate filter quickly fills with moss does all hell break loose and water gush over your gutters?
@gm8group3179 жыл бұрын
+Bobs Cats No need to panic! If the GutterMate Filter is full of debris (and it has not been cleaned out), the water will overflow out of the top of the of the GutterMate filter. This prevents the water filling the downpipe and subsequently flooding the guttering. Clever hey!
@gm8group3176 жыл бұрын
Bobs Cats, Thanks for the comment. No the great thing about the Gutter Mate Filter Diverter is it is open at the top of the filter. When and if the filter becomes blocked with moss the rain water overflows at the filter never going back up to the guttering other than if some how there was gross neglect. We have never had that situation to my knowledge.
@kraig800i3 ай бұрын
I'm looking to install this on my mothers home but I'm a little bit confused as to how the GutterMate handles leafs and other debris. I saw a demonstration stating that a diverter gathers water from the outer walls of the pipe as water clings to the pipe and expands inward. But the GutterMate has a central basket design with no clear pass through for larger solid items. Is it designed to be cleared manually by hand? If so how often would this be likely to be required?
@stuartchester68993 ай бұрын
yes..but will not need cleaning out by hand very often .when we get the big heavy rain days it tends to push more moss and leaves in from the roof . Don t even bother looking on the weeks of low rainfall .Won t take 30 secs to check and empty anyway

It is not clear whether the fitting of the round-to-square attachment requires a different level of cut at the base of the unit.
@gm8group3176 жыл бұрын
Mark, Thanks for the enquiry. If you go to www.guttermate.co.uk you will find a PDF with the dimensions for round to square adaptor.

Make your own diverter from a small bucket, a 3/4 " fitting, 3 pieces of hose. Spray paint the outside of the bucket if you want....saves LOTS of $$$$.

surely that inlet into the water butt is to low because once the level is up to that inlet the water will not fill past it to your max level? it will just back up into the pipe ? 🤔🤔
@carynwakelin2494 Жыл бұрын
Its physics! The water will find its level with the bottom of the guttermate and the top of the waterbutt as these are at the same level. Similar to if you half fill a soft piece of pipe with liquid - the level will stay horizontal even if you move one end higher than the other. (Hope I explained that OK)
@SaxJockey Жыл бұрын
Based on typical instructions for fitting water butt diverters, the height of the inlet looked far too low. However, I can see the logic put forward by Caryn.
@SaxJockey Жыл бұрын
@@carynwakelin2494Maybe another way for us to understand it, is to consider when the butt is full to the top, disconnecting the hose from the diverter and holding the pipe up (same level as water in butt), the water will not drain the butt, until the hose is lowered a little? If so, this could be useful for me, because I put a diverter (not this type) and inlet lower than optimal to fill the butt. Now it seems that all I have to do is relocate the diverter to the maximum fill level of the butt. Of course, I shall avoid placing the diverter even higher, otherwise the butt will overflow.
@waynestevens36626 ай бұрын
If you put the pipe in the water butt too high (so that the pipe angles upwards) it will fill with fine sand/debris and not flow into the water butt easily. Having the pipe at its lowest when entering the water butt allows any fine debris to enter the water butt and settle at the bottom. In an ideal world the outlet on the guttermate should be horizontal like many other water harvesters, this would prevent the need for such a large fall in the pipe. Ive got to say though as a filter of moss it is superb and is very easy to clean unlike others. So much so that we have 2 of these.😊❤
@sme49696 ай бұрын
@@waynestevens3662 if the gutter mate is above the water tank how the hell would the pipe be angled upwards ? watch your own vid the pipe you fitted will clog with debris because it sags below the inlet.. I'm nearly 60 and fitted a fair few gutter systems and drainage system gravity feed systems etc etc... water flows down the pipe
@peterhatfield2 жыл бұрын
No need to provide a "means of overflow" if the diverter is mounted at the correct height!
@SamuelNelson-xw4cj9 ай бұрын
Just follow the brick course joint. An inch won’t make any difference as long as you have a slight fall to the butt

You need to read the instructions Nigel, the maximum water level in the water butt is controlled by the line marked on the Gutter Mate body and its position controls the level in the water butt not as you think ie where the connection enters the water butt.
