Old skinny Dennis in this song was my brother. He's been dead for over 40 years now. My folks and I got such a kick out of listening to this song. RIP Guy Clark.

Woke up to a beautiful day in Los Angeles, as I'm drinking my coffee, I turn to the Obits in the morning paper and read the tragic news about one of my favorite songwriters. So long, Guy. May your next journey be as productive and as full of life and music as your earthly one was. Requiescat in pace

I was a songwriter in Nashville in the early 1980s. Use to go to Guy's local concerts, very intimate club called the Log Cabin. Shook his hand a few times. I have a cover of this tune. One of my mentors in more ways than one! RIP to one of the great Bards of our time.

How can it be that it is 12 years, twelve reproducing years, since anyone has posted a comment on this track? Guy Clarke was a singer songwriter of genius, and these live sessions are some of the best recordings of his songs. Someone tell me I'm not the only one that appreciates genuine talent.

I never "felt" this song until I heard Guy sing it while I was living in Dallas of all places. "adios to all this concrete, gotta find me some dirt road backstreets" made me want to go home to rural Arkansas so bad.

I can still remember the first time I heard this song (by Jerry Jeff I think) it was at a friends house in Calgary, Canada, maybe 1977. It's still as fresh as it was back then. A good song, is a good song. To put in in perspective, I've forgotten thousands of new country songs. Thanks Guy.

Guy Clark & Merle Haggard died within a few weeks of each other, two great Songwriters and Icons. The year also took away so many other icons from all genres of music and walks of life, including the worlds Poet Laureate, Leonard Cohen. The "Tower of Song", has reached newer heights and more melodic over the last 2 yrs. They have all passed on to a new plane of existence, but have left one hell of a lot of beautiful memories, that all true music fans will continue to cherish. There are so many to mention, that I won't even try, but the worlds music is far better for what they left behind. To mention a few that were musical genres unto themselves David Bowie, Prince, and Glen Frey plus the above mentioned, and a host of others. May they all RIP. Peace.

i grew up in the Texas hill country, a child of the 70s, when music was the best, real folkd, country, American, roots rock, Guy right there with it, Steve Earle cutting his teeth on it, those days are sorely missed now by this MN resident. God bless Guy and a the peace of glory for his beloved girl.

Great version of a great song. I've been playing it forever. I think I may have been doing it before it was copywritten. I have known and watched Guy since Sand Mountain on Richmond. My old friend Harriet played with his wife Suzanne in a group when both were still in high school. It was made to be duo-ed with a fiddle.

This is one of my favorite Guy Clark songs....I perform it at open-mic nights in a few pubs around the Houston area. I change the words in the chorus "...without getting killed or caught" to "...without getting stoned and lost", everybody around Houston gets it as the freeways are SO BAD that many resort to getting stoned....and, probably, lost. Guy is one of our Folk music heroes, sort of a cross between Jimmy Buffett and Lyle Lovett, but with an originality all his own. Cheers! YD! C
