OK, you made me do some research on Maltose. The color of maltose is that same light brown you are seeing when you mixed it with water. It's a disaccharide of 2 molecule of glucose. Sucrose (normal sugar) is glucose + fructose and Lactose is glucose + Galactose. Maltose can be made from wheat or barley amongst many other things, so, that might explain the mini-wheats smell. Thanks for the post, interesting edible antique.

Next time drink it from a 1930s baby bottle. I remember your baby food episode. I mixed up the dry baby food to fed to my baby alive as a child. It doesn't have mixing directions because your dr would have written you a "prescription "on how much dry to liquid to use. Your dr would have told you weather you are to use milk or water. Modern baby formula you would use 1oz power to 2oz water . So an 8oz bottle would have 4 scoops powder.

I was curious about the ash so I am copying and pasting what I found on AI: " Nutritional Concerns: While convenient, early commercial baby foods had limitations. They were often bland and lacked variety. To address this, manufacturers experimented with additives to enhance taste and nutritional value. One such additive was ash. Ash was derived from burned bones, shells, or other organic matter. It contained minerals like calcium and phosphorus, which were considered beneficial for growing infants. Safety and Controversy: The use of ash in baby food was controversial. Critics questioned its safety and necessity. Some concerns included: Hygiene: The ash’s source and processing methods raised hygiene questions. If not handled properly, it could introduce contaminants. Digestibility: Ash might not be easily digestible for infants. Nutrient Balance: While it provided minerals, it didn’t offer a balanced nutritional profile. The controversy led to ongoing debates about the best way to feed infants. Shift Away from Ash: Over time, research and consumer awareness prompted changes. Manufacturers began focusing on more natural ingredients and better nutritional balance. By the mid-20th century, ash was phased out of baby foods, and alternatives like fortified cereals and fruits became popular."

Interesting video. "Dextri Maltose" I think is the same or pretty similar to the modern filler and sweetener "maltodextrin" So one of the first highly processed foods and more 'sugary' than table sugar. 😀 Yeast would have added B vitamins, and the iron added was probably literally iron filings. UPC codes btw first appeared on products in 1973 or 1974 when the (then very expensive) technology to read them with the comparatively primitive digital electronics and lasers of that era came into being. The repeated toilet flushing was almost ASMR. I really like your shirt also.

I did it with stop motion animation and I put some of those big googly eyes on my oven, for the singing oven part, and on my washing machine, and on a large 30's era radio. I was just editing it before I watched this video. I have a large basement similar to yours, and I was trying to come up with an idea for a stop motion video that a lot of people would want to see, and I realized I have the perfect opportunity to do some real life Brave Little Toaster scenes because my basement has all the areas that look exactly like the B movie scene and I even already had most of the appliances that are in that scene.
