As progressive lover but modern day electronic music cynic, I wanted to have a go on this set to get an impression of what one of the greats of this genre might be showcasing and have to say I am dissapointed, but not surprised. The tempo and percussion is utterly static, boring and unimaginative for 80% of the tracks, which have so little personality or expression of idea that they end up being completely forgettable. I cant be the only one who feels like this? Listen to any Prog from around 00 and it has so much groove, rawness, emotion and BALLS. It doesn't matter if it's trying to be lush/warm or dark/deep, it does it with a conviction and identity. This whole set is so safe. Its not bad but it's not special, not a single track. Why? The production value is nice enough. Its like the producers are scared of breaking out of whatever predefined ideas they have for 120bpm 4/4 music. None of these tracks will be remembered even 6 months from now. Guy J himself has excellent tracks, but it seems like for every 1 good one we get 1000 forgettable ones.
