Steve McQueen made motorcycle rides in "Great Escape", even riding in German uniform on German bike, supposedly chasing himself! But it was Steve's friend, Bud Ekin that made motorcycle jump over fence! Not because Steve couldn't do jump, but for film insurance policy concerns!

Steve McQueen was really before my time, but his movies are amazing, as I’m sure his life was as well. I can’t imagine though, that he enjoyed life as much as Guy Martin appears to. Such a down to earth person, I’d probably even watch him make a tea mug.
@majorgeneralspencerreid6673
@majorgeneralspencerreid6673 4 жыл бұрын
David Miatke my comment wasn’t a slight on McQueen... granted, he was (and in many minds, still is) the “most interesting man in the world”. Thanks to social media, the public gets to see a more intimate side to celebrities today. Guy Martin appears to be perpetually upbeat, and seems equally happy talking to a fan, making a tea mug, or tearing around the Isle of Man at 200mph... His celebrity does not appear to have affected his humble nature and passion to learn. I agree, McQueen was more than an actor... he lived the action life he portrayed on screen.

@@majorgeneralspencerreid6673 McQueen served in the US Marines, was a motor bike racer, race car driver and martial artist. Most of that era of actors had lives before their acting and during their acting. Paul Newman served in WW2, race car driver, actor and spicy sauce.

david jones thanks, I’ll do that. I’d love to have another dual sport ride, something between 750cc’s and a liter, for just beating about the streets and trails. I currently have a 750 GS (because I’m vertically challenged) which serves me well for long/camping trips. Ideally, I’d love something akin to a street tracker.... I just love the look and feel of a flat track racer..

Actually Bud Ekins did the jump in the movie, because they wouldn't let Steve do it. Bud Ekins did a few stunts for Steve McQueen. Not that Steve couldn't do it, but he was a movie star, so they had Bud Ekins do some of his stunts.

It's amazing the Isle of Man TT racer that I idolize takes a month to work up to do a Jump I was doing at age 16 in 1976 on a Yamaha MX-125-C well I did bend the frame and the steel gas tank cracked and was leaking,.. Now days many 13 year old kids could do this jump on an 85 CC motocross bike.. Much respect to Bud Akins for making the Jump on a bike with so much less suspension.. Glad to see Guy wear Motocross boots and a full face Helmet . Motocross boots give a lot of ankle support..
