Evo 9 is probably worth the 42k and its only gonna be more expensive as time goes on. It's crazy, but in 5 or 10 years it'll be 100k. The problem is, if you wreck it it's a parts car instantly because Mitsubishi has no oem body parts to fix it and won't make any more, unless you get lucky and find a base lancer part that carries over to evo. They honestly need to do what nissan did with the heritage parts but they won't because they are broke. I've been buying any oem parts i can find for the last few years just in case. And they are getting hard to find and expensive for certain parts. The parts in my attic could probably build a new evo.

my neighbor has a MINT 60k mile Evo 8 with whatever special package came that year (BBS, Brembo, Carbon Wing, side skirts and lip) and he took it for a drive to warm up since it's his daughter's car but she doesn't drive it. He told me the car just shut off while driving and didn't start. I checked everything like batteries and spark plugs. Nothing. Decided to check the timing, and... his belt snapped He now either has a parts car if he doesn't want to fix it, or an expensive occupant taking space in his garage

You see, it's not the car designers fault that the intercooler has a small surface area exposed, car manufacturers have to comply with several safety and legality requirements to be able to be be launched, that's why many designs don't come to fruition, so basically in the mustang case the furthest point at the front shouldn't be pointy at the top and bottom without a flat surface in the middle, that would be hurtful for pedestrians wild animals etc so they have to put a bar in the middle and as ''one hand washes the other'' well since this is a must area let's put the plate here instead of ruining our design on the side to put a plate. Of course for performance purposes manufacturers can't prevent people from drilling holes in the front bumper for more airflow, I think anyone have seen that at some point in life...
