Ahhh, nothing like a little detour into my worst nightmares.
We are back once again with a classic dive into Thalassophobia related pictures and videos on Reddit. Time to cringe and feel very uncomfortable at some creepy deep sea horror.
Thanks for watching!

Also if you don't know about the rest of the story, the man said the rest of his friends and such were eaten/attacked by sharks.. He said that he could hear their screams and them being torn apart ://.. It was really sad. Sharks are just babies in my head ngl but sometimes stuff like that does happen.
@purpleblack475
@purpleblack475 2 жыл бұрын
@@Keraroo101 He didn't say he heard them scream, he said he could hear the sound of the sea creatures (it's not clear if they were sharks or other fish) eating them. They were already dead when they were eaten because they locked themselves into their cabins as a safety measure in case pirates would attack them, and therefore drowned when the water came rushing in because they couldn't get out. The man got lucky because he was in the washroom when they sunk. On top of that, the divers who rescued him weren't actually there for that purpose, they were there to look for corpses. The actual rescue came the day after the incident but they didn't hear him. He's very unlucky and lucky at the same time.

@@Evan858 Incorrect. That's Harrison Okene. If I remember correctly, at first, he did swore to never return to the water, you're correct there, however, he later conquered his fears and eventually recieved his diving licence and is licenced to dive up to a depth of 50 meters. As of Sept 2023, he works as a diver to makes underwater repairs on oil and gas facilities. The same rescue diver as seen in the footage was the one to present him with his diving diploma.

I have thalassophobia pretty bad and I am PADI open water certified. I cant be in a swimming pool by myself (day or night) I freak out looking at the chains attached to bouys, caves, any fish bigger than my hand. Once I found out you always swim with a buddy I was ok with the idea. Something about having someone else with me is comforting and takes my mind off of it. Maybe you are the same way. Going out and coming in are the worst part but once you are in the water it's neat. Hope this helps

The deep cavern mermaid pictures always get me. I’ve saved so many because they’re beautiful; but they terrify me. The obsidian inkiness engulfing the small glow of luminescence, always makes me think of something ridiculous - like a Meg or a Kraken lurking and just waiting to lurch from the shadows. The worst for me is swimming upwards, because light penetrates only so far and from the depths below, anything can rise. Absolutely horrifying and still, the shots are gorgeous. And those women deserve props for being that brave and actually being down there, with a tail. That’s hard work even with a rope to aid you.

I think my thing is that I’m not even really afraid of being killed by a sea creature, but it’s more so the uncanny vastness of the deep dark ocean that gives me chills. The creatures only add to the other worldly nature of it. I think there’s a lot of existential fears attached to the ocean, I.e. it really quantifies how tiny.

My hometown has the Luray Caverns, and at a certain point there's an underwater lake that's so still it looks like a giant mirror. Combine that with the fact that they say they don't know how deep it goes and that they know the lake is dangerous. That's a whole lot of nope for me. I remember going there on a field trip for the first time as a kid and I'm pretty sure that's where my fear of water started.

I found these videos by accident. I thought I was just being childish by refusing to get into natural bodies of water or swimming alone. I feel so validated that it's an actual phobia that has a name. I grew up in the country where every body of water is murky and all the other kids had no fear of it at all but I'll have a full blown panic attack in lakes and stuff like em. I'm so fascinated with marine life but I could never get in the water that holds em cause I'll literally drown from panic. Thanks for sharing your fear with us. I see you and appreciate you making me feel seen. Maybe one day I'll be able to go diving or be in a shark cage without dying of fear but until then I'll just try to desensitize myself to it with stuff like this.

I’ve been diving in the blue hole in Beliz. You go about 130 ft down at your max for a rec dive. The open is like an overhang and it widens out as you go down. You can see some of the largest sharks I’ve ever seen in my life swimming in circles at what appears to be a few hundred feet further below you. You can barely see them against the background of the dark bottom

So... thanks for the diagnosis, guy. Tbh for your next "thalassophobia" video, you should actually read some of your comments about people who didnt know they had this fear until you came along.
