A reportedly 43.5% of the Guyanese population are descendants of labourers were brought over from India in the 1830s-1840s.
By the second generation, much of the hindi language was lost as children were taught in British schools, but much of the culture, including customs, religion, food, way of dress, tools and music passed down through the generations. Most Indian Guyanese people have a huge love for Indian movies and music. It shows in this video.
