This video portrays how Guyanese speak particularly, using their local dialect; "Creole". It demonstrates how Guyanese pronounce words with their accent. Also, it provides a list of Guyanese words, slangs and phrases that the outside world may not know or use, as we would. Finally, it encourages Guyanese to use their local dialect "creole" since, it represents Guyanese culture.

I guess your English pronunciation is based on the American way. The British pronounce Tuesday and tube exactly how Guyanese would say it in creolese. The only difference is the accent.

When I was a kid, I was stung by a 'malibunta' (as my family put it) while I was in French Guiana - my arm starting swelling up loads - apparently it followed me until it got me. That's what I get for looking for a cricket ball in some bushes 🤣😭 I was always told it was like a hornet as we get in England. So, I guess I do know it as a 'big wasp' 🙈

taki taki, also known as 'sranan tongo', spoken in neighbouring Suriname, has portuguese language influences as well... 'yu sabi' (you know). were the portuguese in the Guyanas before english, french and dutch folks? and yes, most likely 'malibunta' comes from portuguese 'marimbondo'. Aruba? Please!!! Papiamentu too has lots of portuguese in it! By the way, even the language name, 'papiamentu', sounds somehow familiar to a portuguese speaker. well, a brazilian, at least. 'papear' means 'to chat' in brazilian portuguese at least. and 'bon dia' (good morning - portuguese: bom dia) to all papiamentu speakers out there... :-)

Grandparents born and raised in Guyana with full accents. Parents born in Guyana, raised in America and Canada still with ties to their culture. I was born in America (I have lived in Canada for basically all of my life though) and have never been to Guyana. I have a full American accent and know nothing about Guyana. I can barely understand my grandparents’ thick accents. My parents don’t care about me being in touch with my Guyanese self nor have they taught me anything about it (I have asked many times and get some excuse). Hopefully this can help me understand my grandparents when they speak to me.
