I changed the brakes on my 2007 VRSCAW and I over torqued the bolt that goes through the pads on the rear caliper🥴. Stripped the head off it, in/lbs & ft/lbs are a big difference!

Great video. However, I was looking at my service manual which seems to say the pads can be removed without taking the caliper off but rather by removing the retaining clip, and pin and sliding the pads out the bottom of the caliper. Is that true and is there a benefit to removing the entire caliper?
@girlvsmotorcycle2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, mine says the same thing. I just find it easier to push the pistons back with the caliper off the rotors. Mostly a preference for me. ☺️
@jeffl9102 жыл бұрын
I don’t even understand how to push the pistons back in without taking the caliper off because there isn’t really a good place to gain leverage to push em. Any ideas? By the way, live your Videos keep up the great work!

@@jeffl910 no clue. 🤷♀️ That’s why I take the caliper off. Just easier and safer in my opinion.

One quick question, if you can help a fellow VRSCF owner, are the front and rear brake pads the same? I know that they are different OEM part number, but they look identical, and my nearby shop has run out of the front part number, but has a few rear ones available.

@@jorgerodrigogomezflores5711 yes the pads are the same! Makes life a bit easier, doesn’t it? 🙂

@@girlvsmotorcycle yes, they are, I found out after disassembling my front brakes and comparing the pads with the new ones.

Excellent video! Thanks for sharing and question. Wouldn't you want to replace the rotors or machine/face-off the existing ones just like you would in a car?
@girlvsmotorcycle5 жыл бұрын
Not being a mechanic of any distinction, all I can comment on is my experience as a car/motorcycle owner. Any time I've had brake work done on any car, the rotors weren't changed or touched unless they were damaged in some way or worn. A few years ago talking to a Harley tech, I received the same response. No need to change the rotors unless they are worn or damaged. However, last year I did find a video on "de-glazing" your rotors. Which is just removing the build up/residue some brake pads can cause. Again, I'm not a professional by any means, but I am a firm believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Here's the link to the de-glazing video though. I did have some brake pads that produced a lot of dust, so this video came in handy. Thanks for watching and for the question!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5uue36qbql0ipY

Do you do all the work on your moto in your own garage or ever work at a DIY moto garage? Looking for a good DIY garage in Vegas :-)

Right now, my garage. I love the idea of a DIY garage. Don’t know if there are any good ones in Vegas.

Don’t need to put brake grease on the back side of the pads etc?
@girlvsmotorcycle Жыл бұрын
There is no mention of grease in the service manual. Honestly, I wouldn’t feel comfortable putting grease anywhere near my brake pads. Sounds counterintuitive to their effectiveness, but I am not a trained mechanic. I just go by the instructions in the service manual.
