I've had the 2nd, 3rd and 4th edition throughout the years. Each has been wonderful. I would rank them all pretty similarly at about an 85 score. There have been small variations in taste throughout the years, but it's always a solid bottle.

Had the 10, 12 and a couple bottles of the old 14. Lots of upside. 14 years in the barrel with a port finish @46%. Good juice. Thanks G for the review and cheers.🥃

I preferred the previous labelling but you’ve really caught my attention with the forest notes and pine, love those notes! So maybe this is different to the old one especially with you thinking the 12 is different from new to old too, interesting, cheers!

1:07 😆Love your sense of humor! Love the QR too, it's been one of my go-to single malts for a pretty long time. The quality seemed to fall off slightly when they first brought out the 14yo, but it's come back more recently.

Hi Geoff, strangely I haven’t had the 14 though I was a big fan of the 12 yr old Qunita Rubin. Pretty sure It’s also natural colour. Certainly agree on the 10 , even at 40% It’s got decent flavours and It’s also a decent dram . Slàinte Geoff.

I liked the 12, I like the 14 and I'm pretty sure I'll like the new bottle. Glenmorangie is one of those distilleries that you can rely on to make good whisky at a good price. Sure they're not the most exciting brand and credit where its due they do come out with some solid drams at generally good specs. Cheers Geoff 🥃

My very first single malt bottle was quinta in black colours back in 2017... 46% abv for unprepared me... Had to struggle throughout the apprenticeship, and now many years later, thankful to the experience!🎉 No Glenmorangie products bought ever since due to weak stats though 😂

Sorry for replying to myself if even everyone cares but my hot take as follows. Among the entry level highland style representatives like Glenlivet, Fiddich12 , Morangie 10, all of a sudden Mac 12 double cask is a winner due to exotic fruits newances and subtleties. Ok now back to Glencadam 10 😂

I think that the old 14 QR and new 14 QR are fairly similar. Maybe I prefer the old one a little as it seems a little creamier, but it might be in my head. Would need to do a blind side by side. Interesting that you have never done a review of the Glenmo Palo Cortado. I think you will like it.

I really liked the 12-year-old Quinta Ruban and was disappointed when I tried the 14-year-old. I thought I might be mis-remembering, so I did a side-by-side and... really disliked the 14 in comparison! You said it is more of an 'enthusiast' whisky and that might be the problem! Almost certainly I won't buy it again.

Sadly, I’ve never had this. I had 2 bottles of the old 12 yr. Old Black label. It was my first example of the “red berries” flavor note. Albeit it was a bit hot until I got used to it. This one I’ve passed on over and over. Btw, amazing price. Here in Florida it’s @$65.

this whisky the flavor changes in the glass with water and time, starts out bitter tannic wine, then morphs to sweet fruit chocolate
@maksymmartyniuk70235 ай бұрын
Interesting fact, but somehow I can relate to your opinion. When I got the bottle, I was very surpriced with those minty flavours and port influence on this one 8 months ago, and my score for this whisky was outstanding 90 points. The thing is, I noticed that overtime I haven't reached to it very often preffering heavily sherried/bourbon whiskies. Recently I decided to open QR 14 again, and my impression was mixed, in my case, this whisky is good, but there is something in it that just doesn't match my profile. I would rather buy another bottle of Bunna 12 or GlenDronach 12/15. It seems that this whisky was built for rare ocassion.
@justinafuchs26195 ай бұрын
It’s a great whiskey for autumn and winter time, and IMHO that’s the case for most port finished/matured whiskies. But it’s a really good whiskey at an affordable price.
@tomeis84995 ай бұрын
The problem of the Quinta Ruban 14 vs the 12 is the fact that they no longer guarantee a minimum two-year finish in port (which they used to). They only say min. 10 years ex bourbon and max 14 years in total, the rest is up to the particular batch. The reason behind it is (you guessed it): Problems with sourcing port casks.

Port casks usually impart A LOT on the whisky, and generally, I really have to be in the mood for a whisky to enjoy them, but then there's nothing better, if I just take a whisky because I always do, then I almost dislike the port matured ones, because too much is going on, maybe....??? - So it is funny, IT IS my favorite maturation, but it is also one of the few maturations that I will sometimes have to force myself to finish, once poured....;- )
@0oDaan12o05 ай бұрын
Gotta agree with you there! I really dig port maturation/finishes but when I'm not feeling it that day it's a style I can't force myself to like, and when I DO feel like it, a small pour can be more than enough. The Glenmo's among the better port finishes in this price range for me, but it went up from 50ish to nearly 60, now it won't go below 50 anymore in sale!

I don't know what it is, but based on the older tasting set I bought around Christmas (10, 12, 14, NAS Nectar d'Or) I just found the brand ID to be....boring and generic. For the 10 I'd take the Arran any time, for the12 Glenturret, for the QR and Nectar - nevermind, Port and Sauternes finishes are not something I crave in the first place. But there you go, different strokes....

Glenmorangie were always saying that they do not color their whisky, even boasting that. In Ukraine they have to indicate additives on the label and there is no caramel in Quita Ruban...Lasanta probably either.

I bought this recently, and was slightly disappointed. I think for the same reasons you mentioned. I expected it to have more of a port flavour, but I found it very subtle. It wasn’t bad, but I wanted more from it. And at £50, it wasn’t great. Also, you’re pronouncing the brand wrong. The new logo/design is intentional. Those are the syllables to pronounce. It doesn’t have the “orange” sound in it. It ends in “Angie”.
