STORYLINE:
Air raid warnings sounded in Kuwait City on Thursday morning, as Saddam Hussein launched his first retaliation to a US air assault on Iraq a few hours earlier.
As the sirens went off, people on the street could be seen wearing gas masks. The alarm lasted a few minutes
Iraq was said to have fired a Scud missile toward a US troop position but it was intercepted by Patriot missiles, according to the US military.
US troops in the northern Kuwaiti desert donned gas masks in response to an alert caused by the missile but were given the all clear a shortly after.
