Most folks live with roommates in their 20's. You also can get rent control apartments and put bunk beds in studios. Lots of folks do that. It's the time when you have no kids and responsibilities for anyone other than yourself. You can experience art, culture, meet people from all over the world and take classes in all sorts of things. Many of my best adventures happened in NY. You can meet a lot of successful people too since everyone lives on such a small island. Opportunities are easier to come by if you are ambitious. By the way, you can also pick another big city. I lived in Chicago longer than NY and I could do lots of great stuff there. It's a great time to meet people and enjoy life. It's hard without a good job or the willingness to work a part time job too but it's pretty awesome.
