I think this was the scene where he started realizing that he was making a mistake. He was prepared to capture an invader and interrogate it by any means necessary, and maybe even for the possibility of the captive breaking out, and having to fight it to the death to defend Earth. He wasn't prepared to see that his captive was just a confused young man who was as terrified as he was, not of him, but of the fact that his own people were this violent and destructive.

Yep, right at the end, you see the General’s face go from 😠 to 😟. And I think it’s in the General’s very next scene where he starts asking the HARD questions, questions he didn’t want to ask himself, because doing so spawns doubt regarding EVERYTHING he’s been doing the last 22 years… which includes neglecting his family… his daughter, Lois Lane.

Personally, I'm just confused at General Langs and Wallers logic... they believe that Clark is this random mystery Kryptonian in disguise from however many years ago during the invasion, and thus need to capture or execute him to keep the world safe from another invasion. Yet they don't put a single thought to the idea that if they're wrong with this hypothesis, they just tortured and might possibly kill a kryptonian who would be willing to fight alongside them against said invasion, or worse, torture him until he's willing to join the invaders himself.

When they saw Superman they saw a single man capable of destroying an entire city maybe a country. With incomplete information and fear clouding their eyes it's understandable to see why they want Superman off the board. He could used his "Heroic" persona to gain the trust of the entire world to make them drop their guards. Remember in the Justice League animated series where the Alien Invasion, the governments of the world couldn't fight back because thanks to Superman's image of the unstoppable force for good and a bit manipulation from an undercover alien made Earth defenseless. Now imagine that scenario but with Superman being an undercover agent for an Alien invasion.

@@zillagrilla315 exactly this, Waller and General Lane (not Lang, the General is Lois’s dad), were going off incomplete information and the fear that Zero Day inspired. They were caught off guard the first time, they vowed to never let that happen again, to their eyes, Superman is an enemy agent, attempting to infiltrate Earth and subvert in preparation for an invasion. The General even brings up the points made by the original poster, in his very next scene with Waller and she chews him out for having doubts.

In some canons, Brainiac was a kryptonian super computer gone Rogue rather than his own race of alien. I know that in the JLU and Red Son Canon, he is a Krypton computer.
