Shrimad Bhagavat Katha Day 1 HG Prashant Mukund Prabhuji, Dronacharya mandir, Gurugram - 23 November 2024(English translation) • Margashish month Gopi of 4-5 years old did Katyayani Vrat to get Krsna as their husband. • The difference between human beings and animal is Krsna Consciousness • What is Krsna Consciousness? • Chaitanya Charit Amrit Madhya Leela Chapter 25, Verse 265 explains. • Person who is engrossed in 6 tattvas to know Krsna is said to be in Krsna consciousness - o Krsna tattva - Always thinking of Krsna whenever and whatever he sees links to Krsna. o Bhakti tattva - to think of others in bringing them in Krsna consciousness by destroying their ignorance. o Prem tattva - not to think selfishly but selflessly on how to please Krsna e.g. Krsna headache Leela where only Gopi’s feet dust was able to cure even when they ran the risk of going to hell. o Bhaav tattva - to give everything we possess to Krsna in ecstasy of love. o Raas tattva - 1 out of 5 raasas we have established in relation to Lord. Only true Bhakti can begin after you have established relation with the Lord. o Leela tattva - eagerness to hear about Krsna Katha even after repeated hearing. • We are all aspirants to achieve Bhakti as high level of Krsna consciousness is very rare. • If we want to unite the whole world in peace it is Bhagwat Katha like a string which holds all the pearls in necklace. • 2 objectives in life Shreyas & (long term goal) & Prayas (short term goal) • Why do we ask from God? • As we don’t trust that God knows what I truly want • 3 types of yagna o Dravya yagna - karmakand yagna o Gyan yagna - Bhagwat yagna (science of self-realisation) o Naam yagna - Tongue becomes spoon, ears are havan Kund and ingredients are Har naam. • Gyan and Naam yagna are the best. • 18 puranas- Padma purana 4 chapters glorifying Shrimad Bhagwatam and Skanda Pura. - 6 chapters glorifying Shrimad Bhagwatam. • One who listens to Bhagwatam - Bhakti Maharani along with Gyan and Vairagya her 2 sons also become young and playful. • Who is a pure devotee? • Shrila Rupa Goswami mentions is Padyavali 74 that a devotee is not. o Brahman/kshatriya/Vaishya/Shudra nor is. o he brahma Chari/ grihastha/ vanprasthashram/ sanyasi but o he is the lord of Gopi’s servant’s servant’s servant. • What is written in destiny can only be confirmed by Lord Krsna/Lord Ram, astrologer can only delay the fruits of your actions but cannot alter it. • Hence devotees do not rely on astrological prediction but depend on the love of Lord Krsna. • It is not important that you come to listen to Bhagwat Katha, but the intentions while listening to Bhagwat Katha is the most important. • If intentions are bad then even when the act is done properly the results are not positive, while even if intentions are good but act is done improperly then the results would be positive. • e.g. story of Kirat (Kol Bhil), in Bhagavat. o Anyone Kirat - ancient Indian people, o Hunandra - German, o Pulind - Greek, o Pulkash - other nation, o Abhir - Sindh people, o Shambu - any other people beyond Sindhu River, o Yavana - Turkish people, o Khasade - Mongol people. • Anyone who has done liquor consumption, meat eating, etc if they associate with a pure devotee then also, they can be purified. • People of India are unfortunate in one aspect, that their trust is divided into different demigods, people of position but not to Krsna alone. • Kol Bhil was a hunter, killed animals for meat & skin. • Reached a sadhu's hut and sadhu was busy in chanting names of Lord. • Kol Bhil wanted to gift something to Sadhu, this is ancient culture that whenever you meet Sadhu you need to give something as gift as form of gratitude. • Sadhu advised Kol Bhil to give up hunting as it incurs a sin. Kol Bhil said it’s my profession but he had a good intention of gifting a sadhu gift, as gift given to pure devotee is as good as giving gift to God. • Sadhu to get rid of Kol Bhil and hence asked him for a gift of a half human and half lion, whose head is lion but rest of body is human as he knew hunter would not get Lord Narsimha in the forest. • Kol Bhil asked Sadhu if he knew how to call this animal/human so he can be caught, so Sadhu replied that he is identified as Lord Narsimha. • Kol Bhil had good intentions, but improper behaviour while Sadhu had bad intentions but good behaviour. • Kol Bhil began searching for Lord Narsimha without eating, in desperation for multiple days and shouting Narsimha till his very last breath. • Finally in his net Lord Narsimha make himself caught in his net. • He went to Sadhu to give his gift. Sadhu did not believe him as he had gave up his home, worldly pleasures but couldn’t meet Narsimha and this hunter who does improper action how cannot he meet Lord Narsimha. • Kol Bhil asked him to see Lord Narsimha in his net, but Sadhu could not see him as he did not have faith but Kol Bhil could see him clearly. Then Kol Bhil asked Lord Narsimha to tell Sadhu and the Lord spoke to Sadhu that I am caught in the net of this hunter as he had faith in me and was calling with pure intentions but I cannot be seen to you as you don’t have faith even though you chant my name continuously. • This story tells the importance of having good intentions and full faith in Lord and his devotee's words. • Sons of Dharmaraja, Bhadrasharva asked question - How strange is Lord's Leela? Looking at other people's death but still we don’t think my time will also come to go from this world. Even after looking at the ultimate point of life is death, still we cannot stop sense gratification in this worldly pleasures. Son even after burning the pyre of father, thinks he will live a long life and does not try to attain spiritual pleasure which is everlasting. • Why does one commit sin? * Role of Parmattma: • Krsna lives a Parmattma form in every living being and guides us not to do bad actions from inside, but still we ignore that voice of Parmattma. • When Krsna as Parmattma tries to convince as much as possible, but when desires of the living entity disobeys the Parmattma advice then he becomes passive and let them continue with their subtle free will. • Lord Krsna tried to convince Duryodhana to stop war by bringing peace message but Duryodhana did not listen and hence had to help Arjun to fight the Dharma - Kurukshetra war. • e.g. of Horse tied to a pole - if it is tied up in 4 mt rope with a pole. If the owner of the horse finds the horse readily eats the grass given to it, then the owner is happy and allows the horse to go around the farm eating grass everywhere. • But at the same time if the horse kicks when owner comes to give grass then the owner will reduce tie the rope more close to the pole. Similarly if soul obeys the words of Lord Krsna, then he is taken to the spiritual world which has more freedom as compared to this material world. • Another example is when multiple choice question is given in exam where there is a correct answer and the examiner has given the choice to student to select the right answer. Right answer is only one but the student is given that free choice to select the right answer. Examiner doesn’t force the student to select wrong answer, but the student based on his knowledge makes the right or wrong choice. Similarly God doesn’t force us to do sins but gives us the choice that we can with appropriate knowledge and wisdom of scriptures make right choice but its we only to blame to ignore the right answer but select the wrong way and as a result suffer in this material world. • Hence it is for soul to surrender to Lord Krsna and find his way back home. • How sins get eliminated? * • First sins get eliminated that are in thoughts then in feeling then willing and finally action. • Seed, shrub, tree & then fruit. • Sins in thoughts - seeds • Sins in feelings - shrub • Sins in willing - Tree • Sins in action - Fruit • Chanting name of Lord helps eliminate sins in following sequence sins in thoughts, feelings & willing but sins in actions have to be suffered. • But just casual chanting is not enough to destroy sins in feelings & willing. Strong chanting, faith in God, following orders of spiritual masters create a big axe which can destroy sins in feelings, willing while although the effect of sins of action are to be suffered but their impact is greatly reduced. • God can be reached by 3 ways: o Listening of Hari Katha o Spreading of Hari Katha o Chanting the names of Hari Katha
