@KaizenDIYGym I view it more as a therapy room. You don't have to look like a bodybuilder to enjoy lifting and fitness. It feels very liberating to have your own basement or garage gym. You can buy literally whatever you desire for it and customize it however you want. I can't work out in my boxers in a public gym, but I can in my garage. Never have to worry about waiting on a rack, bench, etc. I don't have to be surrounded by people who think the only way their workout is if they record their work out. It can become a money pit, but almost anything you buy will last forever as long as you treat it with some a little care. I'll never have a setup that beats a traditional gym, but I also have a lot of equipment you will not find in most commercial gyms.

Your gym is amazing. There’s a lot of equipment but still so much room to workout. It does not look cramped or cluttered. So much better than going to a commercial gym, no time wasted traveling, fuel costs, gym fees, waiting to get on equipment etc. liked.👍

Thanks you Stew! There’s a lot packed in to that space. I’m about to move and I’ll be downsizing quite a bit. The next gym tour is going to be interesting.

I love my basement gym, and it's way bigger than my two car garage, which means more equipment lol. Deciding not to use my garage has also saved me so much pain from hail damage and neighborhood break in sprees that I would never want to give up that valuable space in the future. Hopefully you can get your new basement fixed up, but even if not possible huge congrats to you bro.

For the leg ext/curl machine attachment, you just need to create a CAM pulley or search up COTS part and remove the weight arm entirely. The CAM will provide the resistance curve you’re looking for.

Your gym is incredible, looking forward to what you’ll do with a garage space. GREAT idea for the leg attachment. I also like the cable belt squat attachment, have you looked into something that could attach to the low pulley on a titan/rep/bells of steel lat pull? I look at that lower pulley and feel like it has untapped potential. That atx lat pull looks like they have their stuff together.

Awesome setup, love your videos, subscribed. Awaiting arrival of my Fringe Sport Osprey Rack (47" x 47" x 89") with Mammoth Belt Squat attachment and basic pulley system (didn't need all of the Dane features). Osprey's 11 gauge 3" x 3" uprights with 1" holes, lifetime warranty, and compatibility with other companies' rack attachments seemed like best value compared to the more expensive racks from Rogue, Rep, and Titan. How do you like the Osprey rack (pros/cons)?

man im really envy about your stuff! for me its a little to full down there... i would remove like 20% in order to have more space. but your equitment is really nice! my home gym is only 120sqft :/ all i have room for (without it feeling to claustrophobic) is a wall mounted rack, db from 2,5kg to 40kg, a bench and a small weight tree
@KaizenDIYGym6 ай бұрын
I could definitely downsize but part of the reason that I keep all this stuff is to have different racks to use to equipment development and testing. Also I am an equipment hoarder but I use this channel to justify it. Most people can get by with 120 sq ft if/when they need to. Sounds like you have all the essentials.

I don’t really use a lot of social media so I hope you see this and have the time to respond, I wanted to ask a couple questions about your equipment preferences. Obviously your DIY work has started to turn into a business, with each project you do potentially being R&D for your next product. If it wasn’t for that, do you think you’d always stick with the DIY approach or start buying mostly finished products assuming your financial situation allowed it? Do you believe people over exaggerate the drawbacks of the DIY approach or do we just have a higher tendency to look past the drawbacks out of financial necessity or personal satisfaction? What is the general reaction you get when people who only use commercial gyms work out in your space for the first time? Personally I’ve stuck to DIY projects whenever I can for my home gym even now that it’s become financially possible for me to just go out and buy something like a functional trainer. The DIY aspect is another part of the fun for me, and I think any perceived drawbacks when it comes to using the equipment are just design flaws in the build to be overcome by iteration, just like the issues we see in prebuilt equipment. There is certainly some stuff I want to just bite the bullet and drop some money on (we need more DIY lower body isolation solutions) but overall I feel like the personal touch that comes with building my own gear gets me more motivated to use it than I would be if I just went out and blew some money on the “better” equipment.
@KaizenDIYGym6 ай бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment. I'll do my best to respond. Being a creative person and knowing woodworking, I think I would always have some element of DIY in my gym, regardless of my financial situation. I love having the ability to customize and really enjoy the creativity. I don't have many visitors in my gym. The people who do come over for workouts already know the deal and are excited to see it all in person. I've invited a handful of Facebook marketplace strangers into my home when they are buying equipment from me and the usual response is "whoa, this is insane." Ultimately, it's your life, do what makes you happy. The calculation is different for everyone. For me, I enjoy building things. It is extremely satisfying. Doing it all on video and receiving recognition from the community and from companies it is just icing on the cake.
