I am a user of both. When you use them on a plane, Sony's noise cancellation is better. However, Bose is more comfortable after wearing about an hour. Sony is very uncomfortable. Your ears become sweaty and you can feel the both ears becoming hot. But when it comes to the sound quality, Sony beats Bose. I have used them both. Mostly when I'm on a plane. Bose: comfort Sony: sound quality Noise cancellation level: about the same. But Sony is slightly better. My opinion is different from this video, so I am posting my user experience. P.S. Got the wh1000xm4s last week. They started making a static noise in the right ear cup when in ANC the longer I wore them. Looked around and found out that it's been a problem since the xm3s and some people have to RMA multiple times to get a pair of headphones without the problem. Even then, they might work for months or a year and then start making the noise. I returned my xm4s (even though I absolutely adored the sound quality and ANC) and a pair of NCH 700s are on their way. Sony knew about the problem for years and they did nothing to fix it. I do not like that.
@KawaiiM4A1S4 жыл бұрын
@@GojiraTFD that sounds more like the issue I had. It was like static/wind, and started off quiet, getting louder. I just gave up and returned them, got the bose nch 700s and never looked back. I tried the solutions for the wind noise issue and it never fixed it, so that's why I gave up. Edit: I believe that if we pay over $350 for headphones, we shouldn't get issues like the ones in the xm4s. I love the bose, and while the bass isn't as punchy as the sonys, the sound is clearer. I love the sound overall, and no issues like the ones in the xm4s. The bose just work. And they work GOOD. ANC is great on them too. If you buy them, I'm sure you'll be more than satisfied.

I spent a few weeks trying out the Sony XM4, Bose QC35ii and some budget options (Anker Soundcore and TaoTronics). The Sony XM4 was really uncomfortable on my head. I was happy to take it off my head at the end of the workday and was getting a slight headache. I also stopped when on my second call, my manager was having problems hearing me through the mic. The QC35ii was much more comfortable, but the audio wasn't as good and they have a weird audio cable (smaller than normal audio cable) that was acting finnicky with my computer. Out of the budget options, the Anker Soundcore was suprisingly close to the QC35ii, but had the worst ANC and looks a little dorky. You're probably better buying an XM3 or QC35ii used or returnable refurbished (you can get a QC35ii refurbished from Bose official site for about $200 and the XM3 refurbished on Amazon for about $220).

I just bought a Sony WH-1000XM4 for $130 brand new and sealed from OfferUp. They're wonderful. I'll probably pick up a Bose QC35 II as a backup because I hear they're more comfortable. I didn't realize they came with a 3.5 mm jack. So even the XM4's battery becomes completely dead in a few years, I can still use them as wired headphones just without the ANC, mic, and touch gesture controls. This is why I plan to keep my iPhone SE1 for life. Headphone jack really becomes more important once these headphones die from their battery. Planning to get a $60 iPhone 6S tomorrow in excellent condition but only 80% battery health just for that headphone jack. Wired sound with XM4 turned off doesn't sound bad at all. It's serviceable. Headphone jack adds another option to the user and can prolong the life of these wireless headphones.

Is it only me that thinks the QC35II still are holding up really well in comparison to the XM4/700's? I dont think that either the Bose 700 or XM4 are really that much superior in their ANC performance then the QC35II. I personally dont experience any cabin pressure on the QC35II. They are more comfy then either of the two, cheaper, have buttons (which I prefer) and a well rounded sound signature (more neutral then the base focused Sony XM4 or even the Bose 700's, which are to treble focused). Also they are the cheapest of the bunch and the mics are more usable than those of the XM4. which have a constant "poping" in every sample recording I have heard. Do you guys know, if either the XM4's or 700's EQ setting get applied, when using the headphone in wired mode? I know that the XM3 did not apply its setting to wired mode.

One thing I gotta say though, is that imo you give speak-to-chat a little less credit than it deserves, because you’re forgetting an important aspect of it. The beauty of speak-to-chat for me is how you can activate or deactivate them on the fly very easily! If you hold *two* fingers on your touchpad for like 2 seconds (e.g. the index and middle finger, but hold a little space between both fingers because that works better for me), your headphones will activate speak-to-chat and will announce it through the voice assistant. Do it again, and your headphones will deactivate it! This makes speak-to-chat a really nice feature to me personally. I don’t use it incredibly often, but it can be really nice in certain situations! Still a great video though, and I hope you could also address this feature in future videos as well!

I got both of them two weeks ago from amazon, to compare them and return the worst. My two bits: 1) Sound: Marginally (very marginal) better sound quality on Sonys. I had to swap between Sony and Bose multiple times to notice the difference. Yes, the equaliser can change the base and all that on Sonys 2) NC: not the best with Sonys, I could still hear cars/people talking and sounds in general. Also, I got the weird feeling that they vacuum my brain somehow and i could feel kind of dizzy. really weird and difficult to explain the feeling. No such a feeling on Bose and NC was working like a charm with Bose. 3) Comfortability: Specifically to my ears, Sonys felt more uncomfortable than the Bose, over long time of listening over runs/walks/workouts 4) Sonys definitely have more features and customisation than Bose. The feature I liked the most, was that when I take them off, they pause automatically. 5) Finally, Call quality is a joke, literally a joke on 2.0.6 on Sonys. Real life calls on roads/windy beach and with background music. I had to drop calls on Sony, because I couldn't be heard. Bose were top notch. I am returning the Sonys

I've had both of these recently, ultimately I returned the Bose 700's and kept the Sony XM4's. I think the Sony's are slightly better than the Bose in almost every category EXCEPT call quality/microphone noise cancellation. I'm surprised that this review states the Bose as being more comfortable, because both myself and my partner (and most other reviews I've read) agreed that the new Sony's are more comfortable. This, along with the better audio quality (the Bose sound weak) were enough to tip the scales in favor of the Sony's. All the added extra features of the Sony were just a bonus.

Agreed. Though, the Bose do have slightly better noise cancellation, and, without adjusting the Sony EQ, the Bose have better sounding vocals. Ultimately the Sonys are my favourite, however I can imagine why some people would prefer the Bose.

In noise cancellation? Sorry to burst your bubble, but i have to disagree.
@guitaradam20004 жыл бұрын
@@aichan5235 no bubble burst, after using the Sony's daily for a couple of weeks now I would probably agree that the Bose activite noise cancelling is a bit more aggressive, especially in the low frequencies, but the down side of that is the nasty vacuum feeling in your brain! I don't get that at all with the Sony's. Please note I am not biased to either brand, I have a lot of Bose stuff, some of it is exceptional, some of it is garbage. These headphones are virtually the only Sony product I own. My opinions are based purely on my own experience having owned both headsets.

With the Sony WH-1000XM3, I felt the Ambient Mode very metallic and non-natural, specially with voices. Otherwise, with the Bose 700 set to 0 ANC, it feels like I´m not wearing a headphone.
@adrianmorrish84944 жыл бұрын
Agree the ambient sound on the Bose is superb, if it wasent for their flat sound signature and terrible software issues they would be world beating, as it is I have stoped using them and now use the Sony’s, in real world there is a massive difference in the ANC over the Bose, these anc tests use reproduced sounds that don’t have the spectral patterns of real noise which is what the ANC Chip on the Sony

Sending back the XM4s and sticking with the QC35IIs. Just don't see the justification for the price. The Sonys seem to have slightly better NC but not that noticable. The Sonys also feel cheap to me. The touch controls are just not as functional addy the physical buttons either. Oh and the comfort... Sony isn't at all as comfortable as the QC35IIs...30 hour battery? Cool try wearing them that long.

@@Forwhomthebelltolls24 You get a proper EQ and adaptive ANC for your ear and surrounding which do seem to work well with sony. So that argument is not really meaningful. Using EQ, I can get earphones that came with my 2007 nokia phone to sound better than most expensive headphones bacause while they are bad, they do cover a large enough frequency range.
@Forwhomthebelltolls244 жыл бұрын
@@gaeroot EQ is not everything mate. If you apply eq in your signal chain after compression, you are applying it after loosing a lot of frequencies in the incoming chain. You can turn on and off speak to chat by holding the right ear cup. Personally I don’t use it I just press the button to toggle between the ANC, ambient sound, and off. The 700’s was a step into the future in design and 🎤 quality. However, the Sony went with a tried and true design they know is comfortable plus with the custom EQ is too powerful of a combo as well as faster charging and more battery life. I’m not hating on the Bose 700 it’s just the price needed to be the same or lower then the XM4s

Two Questions please - 1. Given that there could be potential issues when updates are pushed to these headphones, is there a way to avoid that automatic download? Until maybe someone confirms at a later stage that it is not buggy. 2. With regards to SOUND specifically, is the Sony XM4 better than the Bowers & Wilkins PX7?
