I redid Krabby a while ago and it had a lot of problems but, despite all of that, it got a 71 out of 100. Kingler is a masterclass in how an evolution tightens up the problems and produces results you might not expect at first. Like I say at the start, this is a certified banger.

Kingler is an absolute beast in Let's Go. Between a buffed, physical Crabhammer and great coverage moves like Dig, Rock Slide, X-Scissor and Superpower, it has all the tools it needs to dominate.

A lot of people forget that Kingler has base 130 Attack!!! The reason a lot of people sleep on it is because in competitive, base 75 Speed without priority just doesn't cut it at its low level of bulk unfortunately. Good to see its Speed isn't a stumbling point here; Kingler really deserves a win.

Yea, Machamp is a gimme but hardly anyone knows that Kingler and Flareon has 130 base attack right there with it. I guess Dragonite's 134 base attack is well known as well.

There's actually a lot of cool crab Pokemon. Crabominable and Crabrawler are cool and Crawdaunt is nice as well. 'Crab' loosely for Crawdaunt.

Great run Matt! All the small decisions like not picking up watergun, not healing before the last rival really pay off. Kingler is an easy Pokémon to play, if you use swords dance, but not so easy to optimize. Well done

Dang, Kingler cruised right through the early game! It's another Pokemon that I never really gave the time of day. I'm downright impressed by how much it can plow through a big chunk of the game. And given the encounters popping up at Safari Zone, can I say the palette for Fuschia City is pretty nice? I really dig that roller coaster analogy, too. I remember being a 1st grader, and pretending I was using Crabhammer once. Kids are weird. We were all weird.

Yea! It's the pallet that Pokemon Yellow uses. It's got that nice fuschia tone to it. I like all the pallets but Cerulean's. It hurts my eyes lol.

I wasn't 100% sure how well Kingler would do, due to it's low speed and special and those two stats are VERY crucial for Gen 1, combine that will the lack of dig, it made me feel a bit uneasy even with that high atk stat, and the fact that crabhammer doesn't take advantage of that juicy atk. But Kingler did far better than I imagined, although those resets on Agatha isn't a surprise, because it's Agatha lol. But overall Kingler did pretty well, so great job Kingler you surpassed my expectations, also Real One!

I remember in Gen 4 how excited I was that it finally got to live up to its potential with physical water damage, I used it on my team and was so impressed. Yea, the challenge was finding what did slow it down and minimize it which meant looking at Agatha and smoothly transitioning to that point of speed/consistency at that exact point.

Never. It's used sparingly as it is and it's effective power let's it do the jobs it needs to. The logic for Kingler is 'is it a ghost type? If not, body slam.'

Kingler is definitely the(for now in your tierlist) king with the coolest signature move in gen 1 . Kingler's route is pretty much set up and hit ,which kind of made the later parts of the game much faster then the early game. Pokemon like Flareon and kingler makes me wonder how different gen 1 could have been if the physical types and special types would have swapped. These pokemon would have benefited from that for sure.😊

I'll just have to shelf it for not and come back to it later. But if Crabhammer was physical, it would be OVER. Probably there's probably another strategy in mind to route it out 🤔, maybe after you'll have some more experience with the game you'll probably find some trick that can save you a lot of time. Yeah,gen 1 and fen 2 is fun to explore with all of these concepts in mind, but sometimes we have to say no to some ideas and stick with the original plan, because the game has so much content as it is .😂😂😂 Maybe I'll explore it, someday in the very distant future.

Kingler is surprisingly amazing, everyone always talks up other water types but crabhammer is busted and a 130 attack stat with SD is ridiculous. Sad not to see mimic lick on Agatha, that strat is underrated.

I'd say it's rated. It's what everyone thinks to do but confusion is just the biggest enemy in the fight and I found eliminating that with sub just felt the most consistent. In some practice you could have like 5+ resets on Agatha alone hoping that you wouldn't hit yourself with your massive attack stat. Even a single setup and you'll be doing over half your health, if not 65+%. It feels bad!

What it came down to for me was that I didn't want to inject more training and I also didn't want to put more resets. With the formula I use, once you start getting to that 5-8 reset range is when the score will start to suffer and it would be around things like Cloyster/Starmie, which isn't bad but it's the difference in A- to A+ feels good!

Kingler isn't just a decent Pokemon in RBY OU that can catch some players off guard well, it has a great time with Red and Blue compared to Krabby; autocrit Crabhammer that's also generally stronger really helps against Agatha big time just as much as a Resting Snorlax. Crazy that it has the potential to Minimum Battle the first Gen, even if it's annoying in some places.

Surprisingly the badge boost glitch plays very little in the run. It's the intended attack boosts that really matter. 75 base speed is good enough to not need the boosts too often outside of some rare cases.

You have like 50 base special. No way you can ever get through Agatha like that. Using mimic on Lick just means you are giving the Gengar like 4 free turns but it can work if you don't care about 20 resets.

Nice. I'm a Packers fan myself. I run into a lot of KZbin fatigue this time of year. I simply cannot be bothered to watch so many Pokemon videos because it's so overloaded. I ran into it last year with Jrose and Scott. By the time like day 5 or 6 got here and I missed a day, I was just like 'alright, I'm done' lol. Something I've been feeling a little weird about is Scott outsourcing routes for his videos since October. How do you feel about that? Like do you feel it should be his routes and ideas or is letting a few people from the past races do like 15+ combined runs and picking the best parts from those to make a better run a good idea? Idk, it just feels off to me.

I’ve tried crabhammer, mimicking lick, and surf there. The problem with Lick is you need all your swords dance set up and you need to use mimic for Lick. Like, in a vacuum it sounds good but you are just giving Gengar 4/5 turns free and it felt like a 70% chance to lose. It didn’t felt great. Crabhammer is about an 80% two shot up front on the Gengar and sub stops the worst problem in the fight (confuse ray).

Pretty much exactly what I expected of kingler, insane attack decent speed and fantastic move pool it was always going to be a beast. But those crab hammer rangers and how much SD boosted even after one use was nuts. Honestly if it had the normal water typing it would unstoppable in Gen1.

I think if it just had the gen 2 movepool with Dig it would be great. Swords Dance doesn't boost Crabhammer though. Crits ignore all modifiers! It's just that strong naturally. At 58 it is roughly 273~ effective power in neutral situations which you need due to the low special.

Not sure if you addressed it, but why have Flareon as the Eeveelution and not Jolteon? Feel like having Kingler go against Jolteon would've been a bit more of a challenge. I know these runs are about speed/efficiency, or is Swords Dance/Crabhammer combo so OP it wouldn't matter? 🤔 legit curious 🙂

It wouldn’t matter and the main reason is that you don’t pick your rivals team in yellow. For it to be Jolteon you have to do an optional battle and willingly waste time.

With 3 swords dance it would do alright but it's a tad slow and a little more inconsistent. I had some real problems in the Krabby run and Substitute lets you avoid confusion and that strat lets you avoid any confuse rays. You also only need one setup for speed and Crabhammer can 2 shot the ghosts. In a vacuum if you could have the gengar waste every single turn, let you mimic Lick, set up 3 times, and then go for the sweep then, sure, but the reality is that giving Gengar 4 free turns is going to cost you a lot of ranking points due to resets in the long run.

I did. You have to hope that you can get through giving Gengar like 4/5 turns and it just didn't feel great. Confusion is just on virtually every Pokemon and it feels awful.

I know it's a theme move and everything, but since ya don't ever replace it ,might as well have just given Surf to Mr Krabz to eliminate that pesky missing and maybe even some enemies' sliver of HP moments. Man, why is Crabhammer so bad...

Crabhammer is pretty good. You couldn’t do Agatha without completely giving into RNG without it. The guaranteed crit makes it do things surf just couldn’t do but like always I’m down for seeing better results and strats!

The only analysis you need to know is it's all for the Agatha fight and surf starts off as a 4 shot on the first Gengar. It can get to a 3 shot range but at that point you need lots of turns to set up. I'd sooner use the inconsistent lick mimic strat there because at least you could sweep afterwards but if you are giving Gengar 4 or 5 turns, you will lose at a very high clip. If you think Crabhammer's accuracy is low, wait til you see the win percentage using surf at 58, haha. The Krabby run put me on to this one. The first Gengar is a menace and without Hypnosis like it has in Red, the worst it can do is Mega Drain or Confuse Ray. Stealing Sub let's you avoid confusion, ups the chances she wastes turns, and let's you slide through. I know it's a meme to say 90% or 85% moves might as well have 5% accuracy but it's really not that bad. I think writing off lower accuracy moves or even recoils moves because someone thinks they are icky is just begging for slower times.
