This interview shows perfectly what I always liked about Ricky: He genuinely does think about the effect his actions and words have on other people, he cares, he never disrespects. If he criticizes, he does it in a constructive manner and not to create polemics. Still with all his knowledge if he doesn't have anything constructive or good to say, he'd rather say nothing or say he doesn't know instead of blaming or manipulating. These are important qualities certain so called leaders seem to lack completely.

I was AT Millville 2006. That was insane, not only did Ricky not know where/who anybody was, neither did any of us in the crowd either! Then you're not understanding what this man is all about. He doesn't give his opinion as you can hear him walk back just about everything he says with a "I feel" he always takes the safe route. If you haven't noticed anytime anyone else was brought up he always went back to him he's always going back to his experience when" I raced in 2007 blah blah blah" no one cares. He has no command of the English language and most of the time can barely put a sentence together. Stop being enamored by his greatness on a motorcycle which he is the GOAT. The whole first part of this interview was him talking about how great he is as a person if you have to tell me that then you are lacking my friend.

well..... regarding 38:11 and talent.... RC was unique from day one. I sometimes leave this comment over the years when anybody doubts (few do but some do) just how great RC truly was from his earliest days. I started racing at Dade City the same summer RC, he was about 7 years younger than me but I think he was in the 7-8 years old timeframe? He started on a PW and was so short when he fell over the flaggers had to lift him and the bike up to get him going again. But, just like 2 years maybe 3 years later he was on either a 65 or 85 and was racing the sunday full-track races at Dade City.... after the start there was a 180 left-hander and then a 180 right-hander that led you to the back part of the track. He would be WIDE OPEN into that right-hander, standing the entire corner and hit the tabletop going to the back section so hard he would clear it easily.... The PROS that same day didn't all make that table on either 125s or 250s. When I saw that, in just a couple years from a PW50 I knew beyond a shadow of any doubt that kid was going to be unbeatable..... And the rest is history. Side note, he was such a cute kid too.... super friendly and had BRIGHT red/orange hair and would just walk around the pits checking out stuff and being a kid but everyone knew him. He was just a nice kid, super friendly and everyone kinda cheered for him when he'd fall over but get lifted back on the bike bc he had a ton of heart being that short even for a PW50 and getting right back up and start ripping again. I also raced in my crap 125 beginner class against James Stewart Sr that summer and the following. He was a damn grown man already.... BIG guy. But, super nice and pretty fast. Dade City became the east coast version of El Cajon bc of RC, JS, Bradshaw, etc... But, Ricky..... he's ALWAYS had something most people don't.... just raw pure talent.... it's just that unique blend of everything you need: strength, balance, agility, great eye sight, great reflexes, heart, grit and fearlessness.... I've never seen anything like it.

Thank you Gypsy for all the hard work you put into this sport.. Your success will come from your passion.. This one was great.. only thing that could top it IMO, would be RC4 & JS7 sitting side by side for a few hours with you keeping them on track.. Man, these two were my idols and what kept me pushing myself in our little hare scrambles, and the 4-5gncc races I ran per year.. Being 45yrs old, I grew up watching.. I remember seeing James at Loretta Lynn's, in 99 00 & 01, in 01 he won in two classes on 125's and it was obvious he was going to be a champion, sad to see he ended up burning out and really kinda cutting it short IMO.. So good. Just…so good. Between Jace and Whiskey Throttle, fans of this sport have entered pure nirvana. I grew up racing motocross…my very first race was in 1978 and my last race was in 1989, when I realized I wasn’t talented enough. But I have been fan ever since I first discovered the sport existed at 7 years old in 1973. We barely ever even got to see a race, let alone a long form conversation interview with our hero’s. This is THE a best time to be a fan. Maybe you could argue going to a National was a better experience in the 70’s and 80’s, but not much compares to our media now. I admit I miss the excitement of getting a new Cycle News or MXA magazine back when I was a kid, but the amount of information now is incomparable. And shows like this and Whiskey Throttle are the best of it.

As someone who has won scholarships for guitar to some of the top music schools in America, I relate to Ricky and his approach to beating MC on the track when it came to learning music by ear. Some have more “talent” but it’s all about putting in the reps. At this point in my 20 years of playing, I’ve heard every progression to modern music under the sun and can literally “hear” the next chord in the progression coming. I now can pick up playing with any band having not practiced, while still adding to the sound of the music and being careful to not take away from what’s going on in the progression. Really speaks to the will of man. You want something bad enough, you will work for it until you achieve it. Cheers to the awesome podcast guys!

Great interview... thanks dudes! just a quick errata at 1:26:05 That is not Schumacher Jase is talking about... It's was Senna, who would never allow any mods be made in his car without participating in every step of the process! Great legends, all of them...

It was schumacher, I know Senna was also like this, but in this example I was talking about Michael.

I’ll be the first to admit to over looking Ricky on the broadcast and just focusing on the rickyisms but after this I have a whole new respect for Ricky in the booth, not many people at the level he’s at can admit to not being good at things and could totally just coast it in for the money but I’m gonna start watching the races through different lenses now, another reason to love the sport. Dope fucking pod

I remember watching Ricky when he wasn't the goat yet. You would think watching the same guy win every weekend that many times in a row would get old for the fans. IT DID NOT! 😊 People outside the sport starting watching something magical happen. This was more hype than even Jordan had during his career. People enjoyed watching Jordan happen but Ricky taking that many wins was more shock & awe. I think Ricky being less engaged towards the fans only made the mystic that much more hype. People were like, "who really is this guy that can do the incredible?" I tell you what, it sold a lot of red bikes back in the day. Every little kid had to have a red bike with a 4 on it!

Before Ricky all the riders would party then ride the next day so nobody would truly stick out. Ricky changed all that & made it a sport of discipline.
