First time I'd heard this song was in 1969, Freshman in High School. My Brother was the best friend ever and Introduced me to all his music and Favorite Groups! I loved this song from that first listening. CCR was a great band. Still love their music. Didn't get to see them in Concert but I did get to see BTO in Eugene Oregon. Was an excellent Concert. Thanks for the great song! Excellent video and I really envy you in that little thing!

When I was 14 yeas old I talked to a man at the local airport that had just built his own gyrocopter. He was very excited and it was very intesting to talk to him. I lived about 1/2 mile away from this country airport near Kankakee Illinois. I had to go home for lunch and wished him well and thanked him for his time. About 45 minutes later I heard him took off and rushed outside to watch him fly. Within 60 seconds and about 1/2 way across our cornfield he entered a steep dive and crashed into the cornfield behind my house. The fire truck plowed down the corn to get to him as there was a fire at the scene. They said he was about 18 inches deep in the soil, apparently he had made an adjustment to the yoke thing (whatever that is) and something catastrophicly failed. Of course he was killed instantly. I remember how terrible I felt just meeting this man and talking with him like I had just made a new friend. Then he was gone. My point is while gyros seems awesome I think there is a very steep learning curve, and they can be quite unforgiving, or so I've been told. Please dont over extend your flying abilities with these machines. I have never been in one and don't think I could bring myself to try it. Your video was very good, thank you for sharing with us!

Excellent build, I used to work for Stits Aircraft Coatings for several years and have a Bensen B-8M which I'm in the process of completely restoring and bringing the safety features up to date such as the redundant (double) mast to start with and a new offset gimbal head since mine originally had a "spindle head". Which prompts me to ask if you are considering modifying your mast by either switching over to the double mast or by using an aluminum section of 1/8" 6061 T-6 on each side of your mast as it now is; the one thing which the PRA advised against at one time was painting the mast which tended to conceal any fractures which could lead to a catastrophic failure of the mast in flight with the original 2"X 2" masts which was standard for years on all gyros until either Dr. Bensen or Ken Brock developed the double mast after several fatalities due to the mast breaking in flight. As I said, beautiful workmanship and thank you for taking the time to document your excellent build and sharing it with us.

Thanks for your feedback. When buying an initial kit, I was interested in this nuance from the manufacturer - Starbeegyros. Acording to their assurances, their engineer performed the calculations, and the mast of a square profile is not inferior in strength to two profiles, as indicated in the Gyrobee documentation. As for painting - now I would not do it, because it complicates the construction and inspection of the structure of the device. Sorry of my bad english, i think you get the point.

Numerous questions about where to buy, how much it costs and how long to build: I bought a basic kit (0.17 in this video) from starbeegyros.com in 2012. The wooden set box is visible in the first shots. Of the finished parts, there was only a folding mast in the kit. All other parts were made from materials that were cut to size, drilled, processed and so on. The rest was acquired as needed. All aluminum pipes is 6061-t6, steel parts is 4130, bolts AN. I can´t say how much because I built patiently (about 3 years). I bought many parts in England, France, Germany, USA, Russia, Spain. Turning and milling work are expensive and difficult to find, who could do it.. The final cost largely depends on the availability of turning and milling machines and free time. At that time, I could buy a ready-made set (without a rotor, engine, instruments), but much more expensive. I decided that I would do it myself, so I bought a basic set, and bought all the other parts as soon as my project was ready. I tried to capture the step-by-step process of creation in the photos that I took at each stage. Then I made this video out of them. I described the whole construction process in detail in my blog: rotorpt.blogspot.com (in russian) I downloaded the drawings for free on the Internet, the keywords are Gyrobee by Ralph Taggart.

Michael, there is a phenomenon specific to gyrocopters known as PIO which although it is referred to as pilot induced oscillations I personally use the term Pitch Induced Oscillations since the pilot did not initiate the initial pitching movement which then sets up a series of over-controlled reactions to the aircraft's nose pitching up, then down, once again up, and finally down and over, upside down into a fatal loss of any ability to recover, if I remember correctly this usually took about two and a half seconds from start to finish and is seldom mentioned when anyone who has one to sell seems to forget to mention when telling you how easy they are to fly. This is why I "built" my own, a Bensen B-8 gyro glider which can be towed behind a car or tethered to a heavy duty steel stake and flown like a kite on a good industrial rated rope when the wind is steady at 25 mph and you can get up to a hundred feet off the ground for as long as you have lift.
@cornpop78053 жыл бұрын
I found a guy on KZbin that runs a gyrocopter flight-school and he does talk about it. He says that too many people think just because gyrocopters are mostly in the realm of hobbyists machines, you don't need training to fly them. He says that out of all the aircraft you can fly, gyrocopters are the easiest to learn and by far, the safest to fly, especially in regard to small aircraft flying in gusty or inclimate weather. He says that he starts people out on drag behind machines, then through two other stages. As I understand it, most people who die in gyrocopters a) have no training. b) Have a lot of training in small air planes. It's habit or intuition that gets people. If your small airplane starts going nose up, airplane guys quickly stick down to pull out of it. I believe if you do that with a gyro and your dead. It's my understanding that you decrease thrust or bank out of it in a gyro. I've heard "never ever nose down in a gyro". I guess it's flat, nose up, or at risk. I'm not a pilot of anything, I've just been considering aircraft for a while and parroting what I've heard other people say. I will say this, I don't hear any person trying to sell other aircraft that tell talk too much about all they ways you can die. It's just not good salesmanship. Also notice that most all of the gyro guys are old. Makes me think that they've been doing it a while...

Could you tell me how you deburr the inside of the holes when they are close to the inside edge? I cannot see how to do this with out possibly scratching or possibly damaging the wall during this process. Thanks for the video and your time.

I'm sorry, I think my English will not allow me to explain these details. I tried to drill on a piece of square tube, and set up the drilling machine so that the gap between the hole and the wall was minimal. It took some time. First I drilled with a smaller drill bit, after which I used straight shank straight flute chucking reamer
