OK. So throttle on the left. Throttle up and then engage the er rotor spin up thingy. Stick full back (nose up) move forward gaining rotor speed until just before lift off and point the nose down (so as not to stall) then as speed increases stick gentlt back. Lift off. stick for nose up and nose down and bank left and right. Peddles for...turn left and right and front wheel, but it does not bank left or right. How am I going so far? I don't have a Gyrocopter yet but I've been studying KZbin carefully. They look very stable and safe. You're going great!

Thanks! You are summarising great. "rotor spin up thingy" = pre-rotator. Nose down isn't to avoid stalling, Gyrocopters basically don't stall, but it's to allow you to reach most efficient flying speed.

Thanks Nick. I've got to get into this...sport soon. Cheers

To expand on @David Handley 's question. Why do you have controls for the rotor to tilt left and right when you have the pedals to turn you left and right?

Sorry for slow reply. It's a bit like a plane, which has ailerons and a rudder. The rudder (controlled by the pedals) turns the body of the aircraft, but if you only did that you'd produce a very skiddy turn. It's much better the think of the rotor (disc) flying through the air, and the body hanging off it from the mast. By using the stick which tilts the rotor disc, the rotor disc turns itself around the turn, bringing a much smoother turn. I hope that makes sense. Basically Gyro stability comes from keeping the gyro hanging smoothly from the rotor. I guess theoretically if you kicked hard the rudder the body could turn round and push one way, while the rotor disk still had momentum in the opposite direction, which would we very uncomfortable, and possibly dangerous. As a pilot, you nearly always turn with the stick, and the rudder just smooths things out.

Oh how I long to fly one here, in the states. I've probably watched every gyroplane/copter vid on KZbin. I get the idea of easing off a bit on the control stick allowing the gyrocopter to reach a decent speed. My question is...if one was to pull and keep the stick back during take-off would that also cause maximum vertical ascension or super drag or?

nybravest I've never done it - for safety reasons it is important to get and maintain an airspeed of at least 70 when below 300 feet. There is an article explaining it here: www.rotorklubas.lt/failai/saugos_kreive.pdf If I try and imagine what would happen if you just pulled the stick fully back, it would be something like this: - With the stick fully back, there would be a lot of lift, especially at first, but there would also be a lot of drag - the aircraft would slow right down, to probably a stop, or almost a going backwards - the lack of speed would cause the rotor speed to decrease - without good rotor speed the gyro would fall out of the sky, and not regain rotor speed fast enough to avoid a crash.

You seem to always have to push the stick left. Is that tiring after awhile? Also, how tight do you have to hold the handle? Nice video too! :)

How exactly is this "training" ? Who's, yours or the viewers ?

Ralph Bryant Sorry for the ambiguity, it's mine, not the viewers. The right way to learn to fly a gyrocopter is through lessons with an instructor, not from watching KZbin videos!
