The best thing about this anime is every demon have their own backstory and the reason why they turned into one of them. This story shows us different sides of human beings. We judge people too quickly but we really don't know what they are going through and if we had known their story maybe we would treat many people in this world nicely and kindly. Not all of them are really demons but this society turns them into one. This is the message i got from this anime.

This scene brought flashbacks of Clannad: After Story. Holding on to their dying loved one in the snow; screaming for help. Unfortunately, for Gyutaro he was not met with well wishes for a better future but a demon to continue their cursed existence. I can agree with others and believe stories like Akazas are more fleshed out and possibly more sad. However, Gyutaro and Daki's story is the most dismal to me. Gyutaro never received love, respect, or mentorship. What he did receive was a beautiful responsibility in a sister who had a chance to get out of their hell. Despite not being showed how, he tried to give Daki love, respect, and mentorship in order that she might succeed. He was given a seed of potential, saw it begin to grow into a beautiful flower, and then saw it burnt before his very eyes. The one thing of worth he was ever given and it was taken. Then how the story doubles back on this relationship to make Gyutaro question if he should ever have the opportunity to receive this gift ever again. The sole source of light he had ever felt he was willing to give up in order for it to survive. Then for Daki to choose that hell Gyutaro tried to save and protect her from all his life because it means choosing her flawed brother; and by choosing to stay with her brother, giving him the only light and gift he has ever had, he changes from his demon form back to his human as they walk into the flames. Man....that just hits hard.

I have to admit, the Daki and Gyutaro due were the only demons I felt sorry for. Sure, they both deserved to die for all that they did once becoming demons, but they never really had a chance in their short lives. I really love how Tanjiro doesn't hate them after all that and reminds them they are siblings and they are the only ones each other has, and makes them forgive each other before they die.

There's an interesting theory that Gyutaro deserved hell because Daki was not Ume, rather a parasite that Gyutaro thought was Ume. I mean, hell in Kimetsu world is a strict place, putting people there even when they had no choice in their actions most of the times(most Oni), yet here Daki is offered a chance in heaven despite having done much evil in the past. The most logical explanation is that Daki's body was already dead at the time Gyutaro turned, and when Gyutaro couldn't accept his sister's passing he created a faux personality of his sister using her body so technically it's not Ume's fault at all if it was all Gyutaro's doing.

Their story is why I don't believe in eternal damnation. There is a God but that God wouldn't condemn Gyutaro and Ume for being born in terrible conditions and having been dealt with a very hard life. Their living conditions MADE them. Is it their fault for just wanting a better life for themselves, like most of us do? This is what I think. If there is a God, that God would rather give them nothingness after death instead of going through hell. At least then, there is no more pain.

No no, only Gyoutaro went to hell as even before became a demon he murder people. Ume doesn't go to hell as she pierce the eye of the man not because she raped but because her brother is being humilated by the samurai, and Ume isn't evil to begin with different from Gyotaro which is kinda evil (killing before he become demon). Eventually as i say in every other comment they are reincarnate as a students and became the best deliquent on the school history. Ume also became one of the 3 most beautiful girl in their school with the record of 20 love confessions for a day.
