John Blaze was a slang term in NY in the 90s. Basically it meant something was hot, it was a play on words referring to the comic character Jonny Blaze(Ghost Rider). Method Man’s nickname is Johnny Blaze too. In Fat Joe’s song John Blaze it samples Method Man saying Johnny Blaze on the hook. Whenever you hear Meth say Johnny Blaze he’s using it as a double entendre, referring to himself and that his verse is hot.

In 1995, per Raekwons debut album, Only Built For Cuban Linx, the whole Clan had new names and Aliases. Wu tang clan, became Wu-Gambinos. And all the members had different Monikers!! Method is Tical, Johnny Blaze, Iron Lung and also Hot Nicks!…. Gza is Maximillion, an old 70s character. If you go into Rae first album, which I implore you to, you’ll catch the names.

It's ten members that make up Wu Tang with ten different styles, but Rza's style is so different it's like the sound is a member itself. Liquid Swords, start to finish is a go to album of mine.since 1995 (actually 94 since I Got Cha Back hit a year earlier). I'm 43 now and still play this frequently. Bring The Pain, M.E.T.H.O.D. Man are good songs with Method Man. Also check out Camay, All That I Got Is You, After The Smoke Clears and Daytona 500 on Ghostface Killah album "Ironman".

Maxamillion is GZA mobster alias, they all had Mafia aliases for Raekwon first album (Only Built for Cuban Linx). Deck = Rollie Fingers Ugod = Lucky Hands Meth = Johnny Blaze Rza = Bobby Steelz Ghost = Tony Starks Rae = Lou Diamondz ODB = Joe Bananas (strangely he didn't appear on the album) Masta Killa = Noodles Cappadonna = Cappachino Nas = Nas Escobar Them boys got a million other aliases though. Nas was the only non wu feature and was christened with a Wu-Gambino name. This also why Biggie started calling himself Frank White and why Jay had that mafioso vibe for Reasonable Doubt.

if it wasn't for the flood, Meth's debut album would've been way different and probably up there with the Ready to Dies and Illmatics. RZA had a flood in his basement that fucked over a lot of the songs the wu members had, especially Meth and Inspectah Deck's albums. Meth made new joints on his debut which is why it wasn't as strong as it was suppose to be.
