NCT 127 엔시티 127 'Ay-Yo' MV REACTION

Let me start by saying, NCT127 are one of the only group which constantly challenge me into figuring out my comfort zone when it comes to music and I love that about them, I love how they’re again and again pushing me to go out of that comfort zone or at least trigger my curiosity thought their risky title tracks. And they’re known to do challenging stuff as far as title track goes but this was a tad bit too challenging even for me who enjoys “Sticker” lol
Now like Taeyong said “Don’t overthink it”! I guess that’s how I’ll have to take this because otherwise I will remain stuck on the fact that I cannot make sense of this. I really have to tell myself it’s okay not to make sense of stuff that is not meant to be made sense of if that makes sense. I still think though that this song was weirdly chill and unhinged at the same time, it was bizarrely them but super OG hip hop, almost 1st Kpop gen? That was a vocal demonstration, their voices are super delicious! The bridge is UGHHHHH ! Please, I need more of it! I love the chorus because it kinda reminds me “Limitless” and on their own I like the verses but the whole thing is challenging to digest for sure even though it’s not a “in your face” type of song. It’s really just my brain that felt overstimulated by this song because instead of treating it like a 1 layer, it registered the song as multiple layers that aren't inherently connected to each other? My brain is making it hard on me while my body really was enjoying it nsnsnsns

It’s definitely very easy to listen to~ when I first listened to it, it was very traditional in terms of structure and it’s not as jarring to listen to. I think a lot of people will appreciate SM’s dedication for this title track being more normal per say. Now I love NCT’s experimentation and my expectations are set for that, so it doesn’t bother me compared to the average listener. I loved 2 Baddies, but I know that song is not the most easy to listen to. This gives me “Punch” vibes almost, and I think Punch is pretty easy to listen to.

No this song is actually amazing, the cool thing about SM is that they are actually the masters of this genre, they know how to mix it into a good song that you can enjoy and listen to on repeat despite it's strangeness! You should check out the other 2 songs they released with this repackage, a NO SKIP album for real!!

SM really mastered this experimental style ~ they did it with f(x) and Red Velvet and they kept perfecting it ever since. The mixing, the instrumental, and the structuring sounds very good to me. SM really knows how to mix it properly so that the average listener can still think that the song is normal to an extent. If you have your expectations set to know that this is experimental, then you can enjoy it.

tbh after Ay-yo i've gained even more respect for sm, they're out there hiring different people to produce their music and they never lose their style, they keep finding new talented people to master their music identity in different ways, it's almost like they open a space for producers to interpret and play with their vision of what an sm song, or in this case, an nct song, this one was created by not only renowned names into sm, but new ones with different nationalities, korea, usa, brazil and haiti all into one song, it's truly wonderful the process of a making a song

I have listened to this song no less than 20 times in the past 24 hours. I didn't care much for it the first time I heard it, but I am not exaggerating when I say that I got full body chills and started actually crying the second time I heard it because I really payed attention to the instrumentals and music the second time. I can't even begin to describe how musically satisfying this song is and the beautifully layered depth of it. Its experimental, but as a musician, I can confidently say this song is nothing short of impressive.

I totally relate to you. In the first listening I coudn't processs everything like the sounds, the visual etc. But there's no doubt that the audio engineering behind the song is surreal. The beat itself is soooo good. After listening a couple times I really enjoyed it. For real, the chorus is very addictive

I'm surprised you feel that way about THIS comeback!! Like, I totally understand what you are saying, but I feel like it is EXACTLY how I felt about Sticker and 2 Baddies. But THIS one actually I vibed with! To me it felt much more structured and cohesive and even traditional in a sense (especially with that catchy chorus) than all their most recent comebacks which I honestly had a hard time with. So I totally agree with you IF your commentary was cut and pasted on their last two comebacks xD Because I feel like with this one they're finally coming back to something I can resonate with and enjoy without having to work too hard cognitively to do so.

Yes!!! I also felt like I came back to their 'Limitless' era! The whole old-school vibe reminded me of when they only debuted, and it just hits so hard. I sort of fell out of NCT127 (and NCT overall tbh) comebacks after 'Sticker' was released, even though this is my favourite NCT unit - but now I'm back on track with this! Sticker sounded weird to me with the first two listens but then I started to like it and now I love it. However, I think Ay-Yo might be the first NCT127 title track that I do not enjoy and I don't really see myself listening to it more than just a few times. I love the vocal parts though so it's a struggle xD.

I loved this song and video right away. The flow, beats, switch ups, vocals I love it all! Their choreo and styling is amazing. I wish they would slow down the video a bit so I can catch as much details as possible. Don’t make it so hard on yourself, sometimes just go with the flow of the music and let your body guide you. 😎 I also loved Sticker, it’s a crazy style of song and I don’t know why but I just feel it. The experimental KINGS of kpop! they are one of a kind, always bringing something unique to the table. their songs may not be always for everyone, but they are always the most fun and interesting to analyze and dissect from a musical perspective, every time they drop a track, all eyes are on them and their music opens discussions that echoes in the whole kpop community, which is also a huge source of hate. They're probably the kpop group with the most haters. They're admirable for not backing down from their concept of experimentality, though, despite the controversies. A paradigm is a typical example or pattern of something, so my interpretation of the song is - are we ready to achieve our highest potential by breaking out of the normal patterns and be who we are regardless of who or what society tells us we have to be... (even if it gives some people a headache) 😋

I was preparing myself for another '2 Baddies' but this is by far one of their "easiest" releases imo. You're absolutely right it feels a bit like their older sound and that's good for me.
