Did you notice a difference at all?? I think XAVC S H.264 is more than enough... I will say though, that exporting the final render in H.265 did make a difference vs exporting H.264! What'd you think?

A brief experiment I did notice that contrast in the H.265 is better, than in H.264. I converted MLV files in Magic Lantern, using Canon EOSM, in 10 bit 4:2:0, H.265, and I can see that my red color off of my shirt was more red, contrast, than in H.264.

I have an EOS-M with magic Lantern also and was thinking H265 would be better for color alone with 10 bit.

The difference in image quality between the two encoders becomes more apparent in lower video bitrate, let's say in 1Mbps footages.
@jayzn19312 жыл бұрын
I don't see a noticeable difference...but what about filesizes? if the bitrate is the same, the H265 should be able to show a lot higher quality, probably only noticeable in special scenes though.

With the new M1 Processors from Apple the hw265 are way easier to edit than h264. I wish both were the same but now irs easier to choose h265 since its the better codec anyway

I think the main advantage of H265 is that you can reduce the file size by reducing the bit rate and keep the same quality.

I shoot everything in H265 and no problem editing or rendering on a high end PC in Premiere. However I shoot 4.2.0 not 4.2.2 as I dont need the extra colour information as I don’t colour grade and it is harder to edit so 4.2.0 great for me. Only thing is when I export to save as mp4 for KZbin, it does not like H265 and the resulting mp4 export is quite choppy so I now do JUST the export in H264 and all is good!! Weird I know….

It's weird. I've only exclusively filmed using H.264 or ALL-I due to my PC's ability to quickly handle the file types and provide a smooth editing workflow.. but today I accidentally discovered my M1 2021 Mac mini with 16gb of Ram PREFERS the h.265 codec over anything else. If I attempt to open a 10 bit 4:2:2 H.264 video file on my Mac mini, I always get an error message with QuickTime before the video opens up completely. With a 10-bit 4:2:2 H.265 video from my FX3, the Mac has no problem opening it up in QuickTime and will actually preview the video clip when you push spacebar on the video file, unlike the h.264 files. It's mind boggling.
