I have a multi jointed wrench and I was able to pull my plugs just by lifting the tank up slightly.

If you get more reliability and longevity I would say the extra £20 quid is worth while, also a psychological gain too when out on long rides, like somebody else suggested on here 👍

My rule on spark plugs and ignition parts is go with a good name brand that meets or exceeds the OEM parts. On air cooled engines I use regular plain jane copper NGK plugs with no problems. I know iridium I tried them and they worked yet didn't last as long with no noticeable improvement. Running E3 plugs in my Twin Cam for over a year because they were a gift and I have to say nothing wrong with them at all either. Plug wires I usually go with Moroso they are a little spendy yet I have never had an issue with them. Or I make my own wires on some applications. If I just want a nice oem set of wires something from Standard Ignition aka Standard Motor Products or Echlin Ignition products they are both excellent. As for gapping I like wire gauges that measure directly between the spark plug tip and the grounding surface or a feeler gauge never a coin type gapping tool. I always check the side ground electrode is not offset or way out of alignment with the center if its off out of the box I send it back. Also I check the threads on a new spark plug with a thread gauge and if they are questionable they get returned. Might sound picky about plugs yet its better to be cautious than have an expensive problem. As for pulling and reading plugs on anything air cooled with a new electronic Ignition system with regular unleaded pump gasoline you shouldn't need to. From my experience if you are using plugs that are OEM or the same heat range and you are fouling them check your fuel, Ignition timing, Ignition system, electrical system, test wires with ohms meter, check for intake vacuum leaks, exhaust leaks, and see if you find any issues. If possible find an exhaust gas analysis machine vs reading plugs is a great choice. I know my riding style has a influence on plug life . Both my bikes do run a little richer than stock yet not too rich and the plugs have never turned black they stay clean. It is good to be familiar with each plug manufacturers heat range because they are all different. I also use a little porcelain anti sieze compound on the threads and tighten them on the low side of the manual spec good to go. Excellent work Alf 👍Thank you. P.S. Check out Bob Wood of Wood Performance or contact him. Bob is really sharp, a great guy, and has many years of experience on stock or performance Harley Davidson engines he helped me with my tuning questions on my bikes.

My personal feeling is , that SE is just a marketing thing, like all the SE line of products. If someone is going to look down their nose because I use some other brand of good quality product well too bad, they can’t see inside my engine .

Yes absolutely

Just a personal view, Brother only make printers, Dunlop only make tyres, NGK only make spark plugs and leads, all of them do it very well so why would you put more money in the pockets of H-D when their plugs are more than likely made under license by ngk anyway.

Do you need to adjust the gap when purchasing SE or are they already done from factory and ready to go
@luisatpr8 ай бұрын
Everytime you have to check the gap because you have only two piston
