I LOVE H.I.M's music. I have seen Ville Valo, two times this year! In Buckhead Georgia, and some town around the outskirts of Birmingham Alabama. He is still awesome! 2023🎉

EVERYTHING BY HIM IS PURE GOLD
@toomch69 жыл бұрын
Dark Light was already weird? That was when they hit it off big - within the states - becoming even bigger in European states. Dark Light is one of their best albums along with Love Metal. You clearly have no insight into H.I.M....unless you'd like to give a further explanation of why they are bigger than ever right now and why Dark Light was such a success and what about it makes it 'weird?' HIM's 'weirdness' it what makes them great; so you can go jam out at some Nickelback concert and forget you ever posted something so unintelligent. :P
@toomch69 жыл бұрын
I never mentioned the word "mainstream," I have just mentioned that they have gained a larger fan base. No, I am not too young, but more insightful than you are; even if you are older than me. Let me explain: I've listened to H.I.M.'s stuff since Pre-Razorblade Romance (for example "Slippery When Dead" or "Greatest Love Songs Vol. 666 ") up Til' there most recent album; Tears on Tape. I've even listened to tracks Valo has done with other artists and ones that he has sang in Finnish. Yes, their sound has progressed/changed and they have implemented/incorporated new and interesting sounds into their music over the years. I like all of their stuff that they have done - that's what makes you a true H.I.M. fan. If you have to draw a line, when it comes to what you like and what you don't like (what you wan't to listen to/don't want to listen to), that is a very telling sign that you are not a 'true' H.I.M. fan. You are not as dedicated and do not understand their music if you can't handle changes in sounds; because I certainly wouldn't want them to sound the same for a decade. Their work has been amazing, and with each album, there has been brought forth a different story - depending on the time in the band's life (what their mood was like, etc.). Can you even tell me what "Kiss of Dawn" is about? Can you even tell me what "Killing Loneliness" is about? Do you know all their wonderful covers? & the rare time they only played "Circle of Fear" live? Or how about the song "The Path?" Or the fact that were originally a Black Sabbath cover band and they have all known each other since they were 9? Don't you realize that their earlier material was more poppy (not all of it) than their recent material? What's the matter? Is the song "I Will Be The End of You" or "W.L.S.D." not heavy enough for you? Haven't you realized that Ville's at the peak of his career right now? B/c if you haven't actually gone to this concerts within the past year or 2, then you can't fully judge their new material. Basically, in order to be a "DIE-HARD" HIM FAN, you can't pick and choose - you have to LOVE EVERYTHING. This debate is over. I crushed you. Or did you not know that Hearts Were Meant to be Broken by stupid comments on KZbin? HIM is music, music is art, they were given clay and the chance to sculpt whatever they wanted, they have produced the most amazing music and each and every album is incredible in its own way. So if you're going to limit their creativity as artists within a specific spectrum of your approval, it's time for you to gtfo or I Will Be The End of You ;D
@toomch69 жыл бұрын
There's the problem - how can you come up with a proper reply if you didn't even read everything I said? That's like saying "Well, I drove half of the way, but I still arrived at the destination."
@toomch69 жыл бұрын
~ Okay, you just shot yourself in the foot with that comment. ~ You used the word "uneducated" - 1st accurate statement ~ You stated it's an opinion; neither right nor wrong ~ Then you go on to state, as if it's a known fact, "even a child can sense it," that it happens to "EVERYONE??" Oh really? So you've conducted a poll on all 7 Billion People in the World? Impressive! ~ I'm not 'sensing' it, so you must be the "uneducated child" ~ Why would HIM be selling more and gaining more fans? I doubt it's because HIM fans have Razorblade Romance on replay. ~ In terms of "Dark Light," how do you explain this? : "The success of Dark Light has also allowed a number of HIM's previous albums (including Love Metal) to chart in the United States. In October 2006, the band's official website announced that Dark Light had been certified Gold in the U.S. by the RIAA. This made HIM the first band from Finland to sell over 500,000 records in the U.S." (Wikipedia). ~ & Every album SINCE DARK LIGHT has gone GOLD ~ So you've omitted around 50 songs and 4 albums and cut out 10 years worth of music. That's absurd - and I'll be damned if you have any of their music on your iPod, you truly aren't deserving. This band has worked their ass off in order to earn every single fan that shows the appreciation they have for their music and it's diversity. There wouldn't be as nearly the amount of listeners there are today if they remained with the sound they portrayed on Razorblade Romance - how boring would that be? Each album's progression, with different sounds such as a heavier feel - has built their foundation. Its just like with The Beatles - how much they changed and progressed over the years. Can you imagine if they stuck with the sound that was heard on "Please Please Me?" Which would of prevented fans to grow with their growth, onto albums such as "The White Album" or their last album: "Let It Be." Yeah, I really don't think it would of went very well for them if they remained in the "Please Please Me" era. ~ Music is like a love-affair, something you're either married to or had a fling with. You mentioned your "lack of feeling" - that's not something that should ever happen to someone you truly love - if "You Are The One." Just like with music, if you lose any of that love, they aren't meant for you and that's because you don't "understand" HIM like true fans do. If you don't have an ear for their new material or can't keep up with the evolution of the band, then you aren't meant to adapt as a fan, and have perished. ~ Plus, there are so many dedicated HIM fans, that if this argument was to was to be put in front of the eyes of every single HIM fan, I would win by a LANDSLIDE - and you know it. I would bet big $ on that. DONE. ~ Anything you say from here on out will be ignored, because I will be enjoying my time listening to ALL of HIM's music; which you seem to be so critical of. Ville Valo and the rest of the band has produced more value in 1 song than you have in your entire life. ~ Now go set your "Soul on Fire!" \m/

Totally agree with anyone who said HIM has matured with age. I too have listened to them for a long time, since I was in high school (graduated '08). Though I haven't listened to their two or three albums before this (post Dark Light) I am really digging the sound of this one. Take it for what it's worth, true it is a little different but it still has the same HIM feel. Like a bottle of aged wine or whiskey these guys have aged with grace and fine taste!

If you graduated in '08 then you and I are about the same age. I kinda did like you with HIM. Last album I listened to of theirs was Dark Light and listening to this it's nice to see that they are still good. Sadly a lot of the metal bands I used to listened to back in the day kinda suck now.

You should give their album Venus Doom a shot. It's the one after dark light. It's pretty heavy. Their album tears on take is kind of the opposite of Venus doom. More lighter, and melodic.

When this album came out, I wrote it off as being repitive. Each song sounded the same to me and the lyrics didnt really hit home at all.. As tho my mind couldn't "absorb" the music somehow, like it was a foreign language I couldnt decypher. Here's one of the best things about this band to me: Each album becomes the soundtrack to a specific time in my life. Tonight, Im listening to this album two years after its release and it finally makes sence! I can hear the brilliance and beauty of it today and the lyrics are finally striking a cord. Almost as if I wasn't "ready" for this album when it came out. Lol! Like this album has been waiting all along I could appreciate it? Like my life had to become Tears on Tape before I could finally comprehend the genious of this album. Its strange to describe.. Screamworks had the same delayed effect on me as did Dark Light. Anyways, HIM kick ass and always will. They can do no wrong and if you ask me, every album is gold. Any HIM fan who doesnt like this should try to listen to it from start to finish at least twice before they write it of. It has grown on me and it really is an amazing effort.

YES, exactly the same happened to me. Up to this point in my life I've lived almost all HIM songs and one by one they made sense. After Razorblade Romance (this and GLV666 got me hooked from the beginning), what you are describing happened to me with every single album they released. What the actual fuck?! It's like a revelation! It's like suddenly you have more HIM songs to listen to, no matter that they've been there all along, and you kind of kick yourself for being so late to realise.

You don't find a lot of people who say DSABH is their best, but I loved it. Personally, Love Metal is my favorite, with Screamworks being my least favorite..

I really vibe this album. It's been out over a year and it still sounds great! Reminds me of their early days in the 90's ( Greatest Lovesongs, Deep Shadows & Brilliant Highlights, Razoblade Romance) and when they hit the Love Metal era and Dark Light etc. Good stuff.

I had not thought about this band in a decade plus. I do not feel the same towards this music.
