Hello everyone! Today, we are going to learn how to make homemade peanut chutney.
For Peanut Chutney:
- 1 cup peanuts
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 small piece of ginger
- 4 green chilies
- 1 teaspoon tamarind paste or a small piece of tamarind
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
For Tempering:
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
- A few curry leaves
First, heat a pan and dry roast the peanuts on medium flame until they turn golden brown. Keep stirring continuously to avoid burning. Once done, let them cool down.
In the same pan, add 2 tablespoons of oil. Add dried red chilies, garlic, ginger, green chilies, and chopped onions (if using). Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
Add the roasted peanuts and sauté for another 2-3 minutes. Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool.
Transfer the cooled mixture to a blender. Add tamarind paste and salt. Add a little water and blend to a smooth paste. Adjust the consistency by adding more water if needed.
Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl.
For tempering, heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a small pan. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida, and curry leaves. Sauté for a few seconds until the curry leaves turn crisp. Pour the tempering over the peanut chutney and mix well.
Your homemade peanut chutney is ready to be served. This chutney is a perfect accompaniment for idli, dosa, uttapam, or even plain rice.
