I love this book so much H.P. Lovecraft was such a great writer! I'm not much of a ready but I will always read his stories. My imagination runs wild when reading these books. Makes me happy thinking about the gods and his universe. 24:19 - 28:00 I love that whole convo between them "You have been my only friend on this planet" 😢 Maybe a lone star never knew friendship but this one alone. Such a masterpiece

"Lovecraft is a white supremacist" so I've been told but in this story he pretty much says Indians are smarter than rednecks. It's insulting, Lovecraft was intelligent enough to appreciate any culture worthy of praise but also had the intelligence to identify the dregs of society. He was a genius who saw what he saw and thought what he thought and wrote what he wrote.

sorry to be a woke sjw here but Lovecraft definitely was a racist (and not the "product of his time" kind of racist either). he was obsessed with his genealogy and the idea of him being of Teutonic/Germanic descent to the point that when he did research on his family records, he was devastated to find out he was partially Welsh on his mother's side. since then, he wrote that the "Celt did not taint his rural Saxon heart" in a letter. funnily enough, that fear of impure ancestry is echoed in The Shadow over Innsmouth as the protagonist gives into his Deep One instincts regardless, Lovecraft was an excellent writer. one just has to remember that his fears (which were very problematic) were incorporated into his work

@@gizurrr964 I completely agree with everything you said for the most part. When I think of "racist" or "white supremacist" I never think of someone that denigrates the ignorant elitist whites while praising the wisdom of indigenous peoples with darker skin. I think he got caught up in some subconscious irregularities regarding stereotypical characteristics, but Lovecraft had no hate or elitism in his heart. Thanks for sharing, you're not an sjw or you'd of already called me a klansman or something and you wouldn't offer the insight you did up front.

@Rick_Riff fair enough. however, i have to say Lovecraft was raised practically with a silver spoon in his mouth, so hillbillies (and practically anybody who wasn't of white upper-class New England stock) scared the bejeezus out of him. there's a video essay called "Lovecraft and the Reactionary Mind" that basically sums his racism/prejudices/fears better than i could so i recommend you check it out

@@gizurrr964 thanks sounds interesting. That's what I'm saying. Let's say you have a black dude like Carlton from Fresh Prince. He'd be scared of hillbillies but also his own people in the ghettos. Is Carlton a black supremacist or just an elitist? Lovecraft was definitely xenophobic and elitist but when you also look down at many people who look like you, then you're not a racist or white supremacist, you're an elitist douchebag. Not that any of it matters to me, I could care less what strangers think of me or what strangers think of each other. I'll check out that essay now thanks I love that stuff HP is a fascinating dude.

Great narration. I've been listening to your Audi books lately & your voice completely suits the Lovecraftian lore. You inspired me to try my hand at doing audio visual videos. All the best👍

Black Sabbath- Behind the wall of sleep Vengence cupped within the flower Deadly petals with strange power Faces shine a deadly smile Look upon you at your trial Chill that numbs from head to toe Icy sun with frosty glow Words that go read to your sorrow Words that go read no tommorow Feel your spirit rise with the breeze See your body falling to it's knees Sleeping wall of remorse Turns your body to a corpse Turns your body to a corpse Turns your body to a corpse Sleeping wall of remorse Turns your body to a corpse, come on Come on Now from darkness there springs light Wall of sleep is cool and bright Wall of sleep is lying broken Sun shines in you have awoken Hey, hey, hey, hey Hey, hey, hey, hey Hey, come on, I can't fuckin' hear you Hey, hey, hey, hey

Aside from calling indigenous people primitive...a good interpretation of the nature of the reality of dreams. Indigenous people knew of the importance of dreams long before this tale was "dreamt" up.

Look at you, reaching for straws in order to justify your politics. They were primitive by every possible objective measure. It's not that Lovecraft was incorrect, it's that it bothers you to hear him label things correctly.

@@paddypibblet846 I wouldn’t be listening to a reading of Lovecraft if I didn’t appreciate his work. Also, you’re the one politicizing this, not me. You aren’t politicizing it either, really. It’s a question of semantics, in my mind. In terms of evolution, native peoples were not evolutionarily stunted or underdeveloped in comparison to Europeans; so it would be incorrect to call them “primitive”. Their appreciation of dreams, and the world of the mystical is, and always was, as relevant and developed as the mysticism of the rest of the world. That’s what I was saying. I appreciate this discussion, though. “Primitive” is a word that I think is incorrect, but not offensive. You, however, seem offended. I appreciate your comment though. If you would like to discuss this further, let’s do that; but don’t feel like you’ve really “told me like it is”, when, as a matter of fact, we are telling each other how we see it from our differing perspectives. I, by the way, am confident my perspective could be enriched if I consider yours. Let’s visit! We appreciate the same art, excuse me for appreciating it whilst also taking the liberty to think about it critically…but WE APPRECIATE THE SAME ART. So, we have THAT in common, don’t we?
