So why exactly is it so hard to do Hollywood adaptations of Lovecraft’s Cthulu mythos?
@ReverendRedMage6 жыл бұрын
Faust, thank you for making this video and letting your viewers know about this man, his writing, and his history. A lot of native Rhode Islanders are proud of his legacy. His tombstone in Swan Point Cemetery is marked with the epitaph "I Am Providence". To this day, if you visit it, you will see the tokens and letters from people who admired his works and lore.

With that constant creepy look on his face I would totally buy the fact that he is the father of modern horror.

The mist by stephen king id say would be a good example of lovecraftian style monsters

This was a really great video and I really, really liked it, but I would just point out that Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" has an unreliable narrator in it and she was published before Lovecraft. I would say that Lovecraft definitely popularized the idea of the unreliable narrator, though since it seems that Mary Shelley didn't inspire a lot of writers to copy her. I highly recommend "Frankenstein", it truly is a masterpiece and so few people really understand just how amazing it is! That aside, top notch bio of Lovecraft, thanks, Faust! :D

Jacob Marion Another example of an unreliable narrator before Lovecraft is Robert W. Chamber's "The Repairer of Reputation".

First of all I would like to say that your video is really good. Not just the topic itself, but how you explained everything and took your time doing so. Many people just rush down everything. I hope to see more of Masters & Creators. Well done.

Klaus, this has to be one of your best videos ever! You do so well with explanation and informative videos, the way you format, plan and script is perfect for this type of production. It's even better when you reel in a person like me that doesn't really like the overly historic or informative genre of media into sitting and watching the video loosing all sense of time simply enjoying the it. I honestly believe this series is one of the best ideas you've ever had please continue it.

The first day I met one of my friends we started talking about books and authors we liked, he brought up H.P. Lovecraft and I was like “Oh I’ve been meaning to read some of his stuff." So he said he’d bring in one of his Lovecraft copies for me tomorrow, I thought he was just going to bring in an old paper back but the next day He handed me this thick leather bound copy of the necronomicon
@davidstrife1656 жыл бұрын
One of his writing methods that helped make his mythos was to have others do it. Equal parts outsourcing and workshopping. Intentionally doing what entire civilizations did somewhat on accident. A game of telephone with Gods and monsters between him and friends.

I actually stopped working as a show runner at the beginning of the month. The production company, prior to taking me on, had only done radio, while several of my shows were taken to pilot, it was decided it was more profitable for them to remain in radio.

A big part of why Lovecraft hated New York was because his apartment was broken into and he blamed it on local immigrants. I'm surprised you didn't bring up "The Rats in The Walls". The editor of Weird Tales called it one of the best stories they ever published.
@ChroniclesofNoria6 жыл бұрын
Very enlightening. I've always had Lovecraft on my list of authors to read, but never took that step. Your video has definitely convinced me to give it a go. Plus, only you would wax lyrical about a book and then dive into a game that fits Lovecraft's.. craft (yeah. I know. It sounds cheesy to me too. Sorry) and end it with recommending that we lose ourselves in horror shows and movies :). Thank you.

Actually its possible his father didn't get syphilis from cheating. Syphilis is only contagious in its early stages. Insanity sets in in later stages of the disease when the brain is attacked, which takes years. Meaning he likely contracted it before he met his wife, it wasn't contagious by that time, but it was affecting his mind.

“Lovecraft should be held accountable for his racism.” Uh, how do you hold a person who died over 80 years ago accountable for their opinions? Years in the future, everyone may be vegetarians and look back at people who ate the meat of animals raised in captivity for the sole purpose of being killed as immoral. Do you want to be held accountable by the ever changing moral standards of society? Separate the art from the artist.
