There are a number of tricks to round house kicks, and in this video I will be introducing about 4 of them which when put together anyone can pull off the roundhouse kick. Mastering these tricks is not easy so I recommend that you watch this video a few times and learn to master the roundhouse kick with us. 0:59 First kick demonstration. 1:12 Start by practicing kicking the air, because if you kick a bag or something then you may be distracted by it and stop your spin, but if you want to knock someone out you have to kick through the opponent as it were. Practicing spin kicks against an opponent made of air will allow you to practice kicking through your opponent, and to concentrate on your form. 2:13 The four steps to making your roundhouse kicks succeed. 2:20 Start by turning your navel and forward leg knee in the direction of your roundhouse kick spin. This kicks off the kick! Twisting the bottom half of your body only in this way first will allow you to wind yourself up like a spring to generate the greatest speed in your kick (this is in opposition to the standard method of generating roundhouse kick speed which is to wind yourself up in the last part of the kick). 2:55 So as not to get to uptight and stiff, start the kick almost as if falling asleep on the train, sort of collapsing the bottom half your your body in the kick spin direction. 3:13 Next consider how to use your hands. First of all how not to do it. Do not use them as in the first demonstration, making a fist and spinning almost like you are going to do a roundhouse punch, because you won't hit anything. Instead of spreading out your hands... 3:46 Make your lead hand compact, drawing it into your body as at as quickly and with as much energy as if you are doing a close range body hook, together with the turn of the front knee [and front foot]. [The above all occurs simultaneously as the first step in the roundhouse kick? No later these are divided into two steps and this next one is the third]. 4:04 Second step: How to move the upper half of your body. Some say that you should try to keep facing your opponent but Shouji Sensei recommends moving your upper body to follow your lower body pointing your face and your shoulder round and down as at 4:28 following the rotation of your lower body, which will result in your rear leg lifting of its own accord (4:40) 4:50 Last Step (?) the kicking leg is almost an afterthought, allowing the leg to rise with the spin of your body, relaxing the leg at little at the knee before snapping the lower leg at the strike point 5:06 of the kick. The extent to which you snap the lower leg at the knee to add speed is the crux of the kick, and getting the right balance between your leg not being straight, nor knee too bent will determine the success of the kick. 5:24 Demonstration of the kick. 5:36 Demonstration of the flick of the lower leg that should occur at the strike 5:47 Going over the points again 5:49 First knee and navel 5:55 Second (in the above explanation this was part of step one) bring your arm around in a hook to sort of hug your self 6:02 Third bring your shoulder down diagonally 6:08 Which will result in, fourthly, your kicking leg raising of its own accord And then with leg not quite straight even at the start, bend the knee back more in snap [to bring the heel hard into the point of contact]. 6:27 Another demonstration 6:32 Once you can do the above in the air, try it against a mitt (or body shaped punch bag) 6:40 Getting the right distance takes practice, usually at the distance where your can't quite reach with punches. 6:53 Then perform the above mentioned four or five steps [five including the lower leg snap], practicing the first two a few times before moving into the third which launches the kick, when you kick through the target. 7:13 Some mistakes 7:15 Try not to roundhouse with your toes pointing up. It works in very close quarters, but it is generally slower. Why do toes end up pointing upwards? If one moves ones face around first [as is often taught] then it often results in this sort of toe upwards kick. So (and this is a big secret) try to keep your face facing your opponent until after your have crossed your body with your front and like a figure skater doing a spin. It is possible to do this kick even if you are not good at stretching. 9:08 Finally for the more advanced. If you back move out of kicking range the opponent will be less likely to fear the kick, then as you spin spin and slide your axis for forward. This can help you take advance of a brief lull in the fight, and your opponents attention, to bring the kick home when you are thought to be out of range. The movement of the axis foot is shown at 10:17 THIS IS BRILLIANT 10:30 Finally some training drills which make look uncool but will really speed up your roundhouse kicks. 1) 10:34 Practice making an X over your body with your hands as your turn your lead knee and navel like a spinning ice-skater, but still *with your face facing the opponent*. 2) 10:52 Practice the kick part of the movement, *turning your face* around 360 degrees, without raising your leg further up than your knee at right angles [like a sort of spinning knee, but this is just a training exercise]. Practice 1 and 2 till you can spin your knee almost continuously. The important point is to think about not your hips or your leg but the direction of your face. Thus instead of letting your face follow your body around, let your face control the action, remain facing the opponent in stage 1) then turning your face, and following it the rest of your body, in stage 2). 素晴らしいです。ご希望がありましたらビデオの説明欄、あるいはビデオの中に字幕として加えられても、構いませんというか、光栄ですが、意訳ですので、ご取捨ください。↙(_ _)↘

Replying to myself. 自己レス In our dojo we use the technique mentioned above where you turn your face when your body is facing backwards, winding up the spring of your body in the last 180 degrees of the kick, this method feels like you are coiling up the spring of your body from the beginning, with not 180 degrees, but 360 degrees of fast coiled spring. ↙(_ _)↘

@@supriyodatta3116 I keep meaning to try it. I can't even seem to move my hand back to my body to start the spin without moving my head! But I think it is a brilliant breakdown.
