I know it's a joke, and I'm not really offended, but I do have some beef with Ethan lately using neurodivergent as a negative. I personally would like you not to. Neurodivergence is not synonymous with stupid or slow or being "not all there". Neurodivergent people can be just as intelligent and talented as neurotypicals. It's more of a sensory sensitivity and not automatically being "in on" all the arbitrary social norms neurotypicals have collectively decided on.
@Kyran19962 жыл бұрын
As an autistic person, although I understand that it's a common figure of speech and kind of hard to shake (there are moments I find myself almost using it as well), it did bug me when Dan used "not all there" in its place. I've seen parents describe their autistic kids that way (especially the anti-vaxxer ones) and it's really dehumanizing and hurtful. I know Dan didn't mean it like that and Ethan just isn't super aware of how that language comes across, but it still sucks to see it be so normalized that people don't realize it in the first place. This is also why I hate when people use "mental illness" as an insult.
@aaronallan86522 жыл бұрын
to be honest with you ethan has more of a right to make these jokes than most people. it’s sad how soft this world is becoming just need to get over it.
@hdilie1232 жыл бұрын
@@aaronallan8652 I'm not even personally that offended, but other people still have a right to critique comedy in the same way that comedians have the right to say whatever they want. Neurodivergent people don't need to let others walk all over them for the sake of taking a joke at their expense, and no one is obligated to find all comedy funny. It's up to Ethan to take the feedback to heart or not, no one's holding a gun to his head, just saying they personally don't find it funny.

Hasan has gone from being the guy who hates doing ads and a self-proclaimed "brand risk" to the one taking the wheel and saving the ad read from Ethan (and probably saving Dan's blood pressure from spiking). I think their dynamic has especially been like this ever since the "black-pilled" episode, where Hasan had to be the optimist and try to reel things back in (so basically the opposite of what he was on the Fear & Malding podcast). Hasan's also taking more initiative in the direction of the show in general, like when he provided the response from the deaf girl and gave the timestamp to start with. Plus, he's probably just in a good mood for this one because of all the birthday presents and feeling like the people on the show really appreciate him.

@@ash_tray_6 - As entertaining as it is to see Dan and Hasan try to reel him in to save the ad segments, it does suck that they have to in the first place, considering it's these off-the-rails, comedic ad reads that actually get people interested in the thing being advertised. Conversely, the company getting mad at Ethan for such ad reads makes them less likable (though I already wasn't fond of Hello Fresh for their union-busting).

To be fair to PewDiePie, I have a deaf family member (married into family years ago), and I know some sign language (enough to hold a more basic conversation), and I watched Pewd's video (not a big fan but I occasionally watch his content) before the controversy and I didn't even notice that she was signing because her nails were so distracting (I thought she was just gesturing with her hands while talking) and her voice was so good that I didn't even notice that she was deaf. My family member went to deaf schools and everything to learn how to talk and they don't sound anywhere near as good as this girl.

One thing to point out about Alzheimer’s is that it’s been known that the medication does nothing for decades, it’s not new. I work in a home and deal with it on a regular basis it’s just my normal life. What has always confused me is that it’s not just the medical community who has let these people down but society as a whole. Most people have no real idea what Alzheimer’s really entails and just how damaging it is to both the resident and the family. This being said many things could drastically improve the quality of life for these people but nothing is ever done. Nurses get paid very little (at least in Canada where I live) and are one of the most overworked/burnt out industry’s. Homes often have next to no budget and very often residents go without the basics like thickening for food/water or briefs. Last but not least these residents almost never get visitors and often many simply get ignored and never get to try and have a conversation or simply talk to another person. I get that having a conversation with someone with Alzheimer’s can be rough but they are people and just want to feel loved/safe, my one suggestion is listen to a album called the caretaker (everywhere at the end of time). It’s a audio series exploring dementia, its advancement and its totality.

The "PC" term for the R slur is *intellectually disabled* not neurodivergent. And it's not even really being PC. It's an updated name for the condition because there's too many ignorant people out there who use the R slur as a negative, put down or when they think something is stupid. Neurodivergent is just an umbrella term for mental health conditions that affect the neurological system. This could be autism, intellectual disabilities, adhd, learning disorders, etc. I think what y'all mean is that you suspect the Fresh n Fit guys are on the autism spectrum. Please read up on this stuff.

I feel as though there’s a lot of context left out of the Pewdiepie thing. Felix is occasionally stupid, but he means well. 1) That’s the voice he always uses for his dog (his other dog as a different voice) 2) His dog is really old so the nerve endings in her nails extend further, so they can’t cut them to make them shorter. So they stay long. 3) I don’t know if you could still call Pewdiepie’s fanbase “rabid”. Maybe once upon a time ago I would have agreed with that statement, but if you’ve seen his content within the past few years you’d see that is just not the case anymore.
