For those of us who don't have 14 mintues to watch video reviews, how about starting with a quick summary describing the highlights and your final choice? I imagine that can be done in just a few minutes, leaving ample time to go into detail for viewers who want to see more. Kudos for the high quality production!

If the tascam had multitrack, 1/4 inch inputs, and audio interface capability i would buy it but looks like i am sticking with the zoom h4. Thanks for the reveiw

Although it's not a review from 2013. This comparison really helped me. It's clear, thorough and straight to the point!

...however this is about the features of the product... it's a content driven video... and our friend here has done his field tests and homework and has taken the time to present that information. That deserves a round of applause.

I bought this based on your recommendation as a video producer. The dial is certainly a huge plus for benefit to field recording. And the sound quality is much better compared to my NX5. I just wish I switched to a portable field recorder sooner.

h4n vs dr-40 looks like it would be a much closer comparison... except that amazon just sold me the dr-40 for about $100 less than they sell the h4n

Really Nice review. i just purchased the 100 MKII. One thing about the H4n line inputs. The yare not true line inputs. They are instrument level. The Tascam has true line input levels.

how can i use the h4n as an audio interface?, i need an opinion, i need a recorder to use on video projects like short cuts, radio, but also i have a project to record musicians playing over a couch and i wanna use it for recording a guitar or two playing live, so what do you say, i should buy the taskam, or the h4n is good for my needs? thanks :) (also i think i will make more video projects than musical

Question:First of all,great review. Watching thousands of reviews, this is what a review is all about. Maybe I didn't paid attention, but can it record directly to my DSLR T3i with the line out, using multiple mics, so I don't have to do much post editing afterwards en still have a great back up at the same time. So this is a recorder and a kind of JuicedLink amp at the same time. Please respond. grtngs

Unlike the Tascam, the H4n can be used as an audio interface for pc and mac. A pretty good selling point it has over the Tascam. And as you mentioned, that could be because the H4n is geared more towards musicians that multi-track. The preamps on the Tascam are a bit quieter though and I chose it because I record everything through a mixer and just needed to capture the stereo stream to edit later as well as a quiet, battery efficient field recorder. Both are great, really. Nice review.

great review no holding backbut would like an opinion on the Roland R26 vs the Tascam DR 100 MKII only option fof line out on Roland is headphone jack but it's 3 channel internal mics and simultaneous use of XLR mics any thoughts on the two? besides price

Dear friend, Without having knowledge about recorder, I bought Sony pcm d 50 over matter of the sound quality as a sale clerk explained to me. Now, some one said it was not sync with the dslr movie. If you could have access to that recorder, I would be very much appreciate your review and comment on that particular issue and how to make it works. Thanks a lot, Nyunt Shwe

if you plug it in DSLR will you have to press record on video and same press record on Tascam DR-100 and how do you sink it in will it give you to audio tracks one from DSLR and one from Tascam DR-100?

can you use a 5V power bank for either of them ... ?

I'm trying to decide between these two units. Hows the sync issue? I've heard that syncing audio files with video can be problematic for long takes (i.e., the audio drifts to be a few frame out at durations longer than an hour). What's the story with that/ I do a lot of long live events, so this is important to me.

I personally ended up using my H4n more and haven't had any issues. I love Tascam's stuff, but the H4n has been trusted for so long and is still my main audio tool.
@AIexanderHartdegen11 жыл бұрын
Main use of the zoom h4n is record music. If you record music,piano and guitar, zoom is ok for you. If you intend to use a recorder for video, cinema and other, thake the tascam, they are builded specially for that. The reason is background noise, quality of preamp, the digital conversion of the signal input, etc. A bad mic can give a bad result on the Zoom H4n, and this mic become very good mic on a Tascam , cause the digital conversion of the signal, without speaking about the preamp quality is dedicated for vocal/sound record.
@richardsteeples65988 жыл бұрын
would this work with interviews? how close would they have to be? and do you have to use xlr leads? can you plug this into DSLR Camera? and a NTG 4+? is NTG 4+ better? sorry if that a lot of question not very good with tech trying to find out which is best for interview and outside

I will say: I have used the h4n and tascam DR100, and both are great products. The tascam's condenser bumper is plastic and recently fell off, so now the condenser mic is exposed. Not saying that it's terrible construction, just not indestructible.

I own the H4N and the DR-40, which I'm sure must be pretty similar to the TR-100MKII in many ways. I agree with all you said! I hate the scrolling device on the H4N and generally believe that Tascam has a nicer finish and a more friendly user interface

Hmmmmmmmm it seemed to me that the DR had a more pro sound to it. I've heard it with an Audio-Technica AT-8022. The H4N I have heard with an 822. But here is the 1 thing though. I can't fully judge as I've not heard the DR-100 MKII with an Rode NT1-A mike. But I have the H4N. What's more I've heard the Nt1-A mike on a 4000$ recorder.

I liked the music, kind of techno-mod. I've also owned both and like them both the same for sound quality. I think the Tascam has the edge on features.
@Cameradep0712 жыл бұрын
It was an unfair comparison. Update this so you have them recording side by side both on booms. Also take out the music, so we can hear the quality of the preamps. The Tascam sound distant, because the mic was pointing away from you.

If he wants to be taken seriously among the film and video industry, he should learn to edit his video appropriately. Other wise he will not be respected as a professional. Especially if he is going to put his work on the world wide web, where anyone (such as a future client or employer) might see it.
