H556/1 Specimen Paper OCR Physics A Walkthrough

Since this paper hasn't been done before, I have given you a walkthrough of it. Some questions were challenging but there were a lot of Practical Physics questions. I will carry on with paper 3 in a couple of week's time from Set 1 Practice Papers series as your exam for that isn't until later in June.

ty for the paper. Id like to know if we are supposed to use the mass of earth if it's not given in the question? For Q22 I used the mass of the earth and got the same answer however the mark scheme used a different method. Can I still get the mark in the exam?

I initially used the mass of the Earth too. I’d recommend learning it as you can use it as and when required. The Physics stays correct, so I don’t see why they’d mark you down for it.

Just 1 Question for Question 1. Why cannot we just add up the percentage uncertainties in x and y and then multiply it by z to get the absolute uncertainty in z, I seem to get an answer of 5?

that's because the two quantities are the same (lengths) so you need to consider upper and lower bounds/limits to calculate the absolute uncertainty in z. Percentage uncertainty method works when you are dealing with different types of quantities.

When adding or subtracting two values you add the absolute uncertainty, if you multiply or divide then you add percentage uncertainty

You will not add or subtract values with different (non-equivalent) units in a level physics as far as I know because there's no equations that do that
