Just curious, are you upgrading the card because you want to go from sata/sas3 to sata/sas 6? As far as I know, the perc 6i can accept those drives up to 7.68TB. I just saw cloud ninjas install SATA and SAS drives up to 7.68 TB on the R610. I'm new to this stuff and waiting for my two R610's to arrive on monday. I chose the R610 because it can operate with one CPU. In the same token, I don't know what limitation does this pose. This will be my first server to own - I just want to tinker with it like you're doing, and use it just to save my ISOs and other files. I will not be leaving it on 24/7. Thanks for the tutorial! :) Subscribed.

cool upgrade for the price - improved the performance decently.

Did you spec that controller based on value from ebay or was it surplus on hand? What's the model number on it?

I was trying to get everything in one shot, and just did a search for H700i and bought the cheapest one. This is what I had for part numbers H700i 512M - part # CNXVV H700i 1GB - part # 39H7H Found them on the dell form, but of course double check.

@@LoResDIY Are those speeds sustainable or are they using the h700i cache and slowing down once exceeding the cache size ? And also I have the H700 also in an R610, do you need the H700i to use SSDs ? Cheers
