as a teenager whose parents have inflicted child trauma on their own daughter unbeknownst to them, twinkling watermelon made me relate to all sorts of emotions. although eungyeol's situation is relatively different from mine, it stresses how children also get conflicted between the problem of their parents despite being "kids." what most parents don't realize nowadays (in particular cases) is when children are forced to "grow up" to empathize with their parents, abandoning their childhood. what's saddening in this part is when they invalidate their feelings and refuse to empathize with their own children, saying that they've "been there." idk, twinkling watermelon is just the kind of drama that made me feel "heard." we don't get to see dramas like these often.

As the eldest daughter of a dysfunctional family, I thought I related to Eungyeol and his burdens but then they showd Eunyus story. Eunyu is me, I’m Eunyu. An overachieving daughter who has to always shine for my parents to hide their own toxic relationship, a mere means to live their dreams through me. I have never related to a character more.

It's amazing how they were able to portray Ha Eun Gyeol's resentment from being relied on as the voice of the family as well as the pain of his mother growing up without a voice and the sadness of his father losing his voice... all without invalidating anyone's suffering. It's really a story about having empathy and understanding, despite coming from two worlds. Eun Gyeol wasn't sent to 1995 to "fix" his father or save him from becoming deaf--although I can certainly understand Eun Gyeol's desperation to spare his father from that pain and to create a future where he has another hearing person in his life. But that's not really why he came. He came to show compassion and to help his mother escape and flourish through sign language. He came to understand his father better. In the end, it's so clear how much Eun Gyeol truly loves his parents and they love him, despite the tension that sometimes arises. But his world becomes a better place through communication and understanding and empathizing with one another's struggles.

Spoilers: don't read if you haven't watched all the way through. This is one of the main reasons i didn't like the ending,or at least feel like up was rapped up well. He had to go through all of that before he went to the past and no one involved even remembers it that way since the future changed, and no one in his family knows in detail just what he went through trying to save his parents in multiple ways. 😭😭😭 I wish it showed him telling his family about everything that happened from his point of view in his past, so that he can have their support about everything he went through as well. And maybe they can tell him how life went for them after he left, including details about himself that he doesn't even remember.

It's a nice edit, and it hits home in a different way. Anyway, I haven't watched the drama and seen clips only. I thought only the mom is deaf, so I'm confused why the dad is too. Can anyone please explain 😅?
