If you wrote a program for a shaft that is say 30 inches long and you use a following steadyrest that opens and closes with an mcode are you able to have vps write the program and then go into that program and add the mcodes to open and close the following steadyrest at the start and end of each z movement?

If you change to an internal thread VPS routine, it will calculate the SAME minor diameter. HAAS knows this, because I told them, but has no intention of correcting. Further, they told me that it is because they did not want the operator to cut too deep. If that is so, then the Internal thread VPS routine would not show the same result! The problem is NOT that the error is there. The problem is that HAAS will not even acknowledge the error and they provide a ridiculous excuse.

Pipe threads have a taper to them, this parameter will probably allow you to machine pipe threads.

That minor diameter that the VPS program generated is NOT correct! That diameter is for an INTERNAL thread. How could your program get that wrong. More importantly, how could no-one notice! Try running it; the nut will NOT fit!
